I have a recipe for green beans that I would like to modify so that it is atkins friendly. I have an idea for how to modify it, but I thought I would ask all the amateur chefs like myself what they might do to modify this.
green beans
butter
brown sugar
garlic powder
bacon
I don't think the amounts are really relevant because you make a sauce with the butter, brown sugar, and garlic powder (kind of gives it a BBQ flavor). The bacon is wrapped around the green beans and then the sauce is poured over the green bean bundles and the whole thing is baked. My problem is how do I replace the brown sugar? I have read that brown sugar twin isn't that good, so I don't want to waste my time with that. I was thinking that I could use splenda (granular) and a LC BBQ sauce. Also, I thought I would use a bacon with a nice maple flavor.
Any other ideas? I know that this would not be induction friendly and that I should be careful of using the LC BBQ sauce (not to mention nitrates in the bacon), but this would be for Thanksgiving. I want to have a nice side dish that I can eat without feeling too guilty or having a huge insulin spike that could send me on a "who cares, it's Thanksgiving kind of binge."
Thanks for the help,
Mere
