  • Salad Carb Count

    Hiya all!

    Just wanted some opinions if possible : I get this fresh green salad in Italy .. in a bag - a mix of rucola - soncino (small leaves the shape of a spade on a playing card) .. anyway all little leaves.
    The pack gives me nutritional values as: for 100 gr (3.5 oz) cal. = 19; carbs = 1.8g; Protein = 2.5g

    Looking at the figures in Fitday that seems to be low on carbs compared to the other salads .. should I trust the figures on the pack ??

    I don't want to find out I've been eating double the carbs than I thought!

    Any comments most welcome ...

    Have a nice evening all

    Thats tough, but I think I would. Any form of lettuce is pretty low in carbs

      Re: Salad Carb Count

      I go by what it says on the package, for no two salads are created equal. Lettuce is such a broad term, and each plant is so different.

      I usually eat butterleaf and raddichio--I used to eat spinach all the time, but I'd like to NOT spend my time in the bathroom--thanks ecoli.

      Anyway, that stuff I eat is usually is about 2 carbs/cup. I enter it into fitday as "lettuce" but I keep mental tabs on my carb count as well.

        Thanks for answering ..... 2 carbs/cup seems to be a lot is it not ???

        I've actually been plugging different salads into Fitday .. and checking the 5 net carb list here .. and maybe I was worrying for no reason .. because in fact if I plug 3 cups of mixed salad greens in .. it is 6 carbs but 5 are deducted as fibre in the graph part.
        Which is the same as my figure which must be net carbs ...

        Hopefully that should be it!

        Thanks anway for kind replies

        Keep up the good work julirama! : 30 lbs is a great loss =)) Well done!

          IF you are worried you are eating too little carbs, then try eating some of the other vegetables allowed on Induction---there are 54 of them.

          I don't waste my time on lettuce. It has very little carbs, but also very little fiber and very little vitamins and minerals in comparison to other veggies. If I do eat lettuce, it comprises no more than 25% of my vegetable intake.

            How many grams of greens are in the bag? I'm sure that the carbs are low but it would be hard to guess how many there are without knowing how much is in the bag.

              Hi Linda

              the nut. values for 100 grams - 3.5 oz are

              for 100 gr (3.5 oz)
              calories = 19;
              net carbs = 1.8 g;
              Protein = 2.5g

              It seems to come out the same as the Fitday lettuce when the fibre has been subtracted.

              Thanks for answering!

                Re: Salad Carb Count

                rucola is what we americans call rocket lettuce I don't know the other one soncino is

                actually dark green lettuces are nutritional. they contain potassium, and vitamin A ( you just can't see it cause the green covers it up)

                100g of lettuce is about 2.5 cups as those 3.5 ounces listed on that bag are weight ounces not volum ounces.

                  Hi Jen. I see now that the package contained 100 grams of lettuce. I thought perhaps you were just reading the nutritional label on the back of the bag. European food labels always give the counts for 100 grams even if that's not the amount in the package or the amount that is in a serving.
