  • Hamburger Pie

I got the inspiration for this from the Whoosie Pie thread I saw here ages ago, i'll post some pics next week (once I get my digital camera sorted!), but I thought I would share the recipe!

    2lbs Ground Beef
    6oz Mozzarella cheese
6 - 8 crisp bacon rashers - extra thick, chopped into 1 inch pieces
    2oz onion
    Seasoning to taste

In a shallow round pie dish lined with foil, put a centimeter thick layer of ground beef seasoned to your taste, top that with a thin layer of mozzarella cheese, then add some pre-cooked bacon and onion - I like to throw them both into a skillet together and crisp them up and another layer of cheese on top. Then add another layer of seasoned ground beef, pop it in the oven and bake for 45mins to 1hour ( I do this with 1kg of beef and those timings work for me, your oven may vary)

This makes a fabulous stuffed buger pie, and a small slice goes a very long way hunger wise!! It tastes even better heated up the next day, rolled in lettuce leaves with the dressing of your choice!

      Sounds good!!
Do you 'seal' it by pressing the meat layers together around the 'filling' like the 'wooshie pie' recipe?
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

        Re: Hamburger Pie

Elizellen - yes I do - i squish down the sides to keep the fillings inside and when it's half way through cooking (as ground beef shrinks) I move the foil around it a bit to keep it all together!

              Re: Hamburger Pie

              Kay.

I loved it. I obviously didnt season it enough as the meat was pretty bland, but it was nice. I added some mixed herbs to the top also.

Served it on a bed of baby spinach and spring onions.

I hope your BF succeeds on this WOE.

                Glad you liked it Richt

I usually season the meat with a blend of cumin, cayenne pepper and salt and craked black pepper - works a treat! I've also done it with oregano, rosemary and fresh chives, that works well too!

                  Re: Hamburger Pie

I just seasoned the beef with salt and cracked pepper. I was toying with putting some chillli in but didnt bother in the end. I then put some oregano and mixed herbs on top.

I have some more which will be enough for me tonight.

                    Re: Hamburger Pie

Yep it goes a loooong way - that's one of the things I love about it - there are always leftovers! (pre atkins days, something like this, with potatoes of course, would only have lasted one meal.......my how times change!)

Do you put the ground beef in the dish raw or fried up?

                          Re: Hamburger Pie

Wanna, I would imagine being cooked for up to an hour it would be raw, it wouldn't hold together if it were precooked. it should cook right thru with no problem for this long.

This sounds wonderful! I can think of quite few variations for this too! chedder and bacon; peppers; blue cheese; mozzerlla and pepperoni! yum!

Yep it goes in raw - it's perfectly cooked by the time it comes out and holds together well.

Jen, oh yes! I make many variations, this is my goto recipe, but sometimes I put in homemade pesto (basil, garlic, olive oil and parmesan) and salami, or a fajita style mixed peppers and onions and I serve that one with sour cream... the list goes on it's very versatile, think of a giant ground beef sanwich!
