I like to buy the Cookbooks from local areas that I have visited. I have one that is from my hometown of Memphis, TN and I have another from Charleston, SC because I lived there for 5 years. I used to subscribe to some of the cooking magazines, but gave up all my subscriptions long ago (I still have the magazines).

I was not trying to spam the board when I asked if anyone had Master Cook. I have the program and am having a ball setting it up, downloading recipes and entering in some of my old recipes that I have collected over the years. Some of my old recipes are written on pieces of paper that are falling apart or are cut out of magazines. Many recipes are written on the blank front and back pages of my origional cookbook.

Just wanted to know if anyone else used this program.

I know you were not trying to spam us!!! I have not used Master Cook but would like to and am thinking about it because I have note books with family recipes the kids invented that are poorly organized and I had thought that Master Cook was the way to go....I have not used it yet but am considering it and one other program my friend rec ..It just all takes time entering the recipes ..can you scan them in I wonder?.....

Yes, you can scan the recipes in to Master Cook. The program also does a good job of downloading recipes off the web. There are web sites out there dedicated to MC recipes. I have downloaded about 1,000 Lo Carb recipes. It also has Nutritional information for the recipes and a menu planner. Oh, and it makes shopping lists and syncs with PDA's. Ok, now i sound like an informercial. LOL!

I have been playing with the menu planner. I have several versions of this program, but just bought the newest version 8. I am still learning all the new features and am on the MC discussion board, so I am learning a lot.

My goal is to set up 30 0r 40 good menus that I like and keep me well within my Atkins WOE. This way I can just rotate through the menus and have a good varity of food. I have found that I do much better on this WOE when I plan out my menus and stick to them.

Anyone want the recipe sites? I can psot a link here if you like. Just let me know.

Ok that almost sounds tooo organized to me!!!!...I like the idea of the master cook but to organize 30 menus ..my hat goes off to you Sharon!!!
there is just no way I could do that ..and if I did I would never remember to go back and use them...my problem with menus is that I change my mind too often about meals..it is better to plan ahead but I can't it is all about the moment for me ...unless it is a dinner party or holiday meal!!!...I plan dinner in the morning and that is about as far ahead as I can go..then it depends either on what I have on hand or what is fresh and looks good in the grocery store on the way home!!!....

I too love to cook! The only time I don't like it is when I'm tired from work and have no idea what I'm going to fix! But I love to cook 90 percent of the time. I have so many single guy friends that I usually cook xtra and then after dinner my BF will take me through the neighborhood to drop of care packages to the guys!

I love to try to recreate things I have eaten at restarurants or parties..I always come up with a good variation of things I've liked.

I'm amazed at the #of people who do not cook, don't want to cook and don't know how! :yikes I cannot believe the # of young girls (in their 20's) in my office who are married and do not know how to cook! They survive on take out, delivery and going out to eat! When I'm in the break room heating up my leftovers from dinner they are always hoovering over me admiring what I'm having! Funny thing is they always say "wow that looks so good, where did you get that?"--well they have finally come to know that I "got it" from my kitchen! Geez

Ah nurselady, I wish I were that organized! I am trying! I am still putting together the menus, I only have six saved right now.

Actually, just a little background on me: DH and I used to be over the road Truck Drivers. We sold our truck back last spring and got off the road completely. During the 6 years that I was on the road with him we would stay out on the road for 3 weeks then come home for 1 week. When we came home I would have to do all my shopping and then spend 2 days cooking, dividing up and freezing food. I would take this frozen food on the road with us (we had a small 'fridge in the truck) and cook it when we stopped for rest. We usually ate in the Truck Stops every other day and ate out of the Truck 'fridge the other day. It saved us money and we ate better "from home" cooking. When we both started Atkins WOE last August 2003, my cooking at home was the one thing that kept us on track.

I am normally a very organized type person (Virgo, after all, LOL!), but have gotten very lazy this last year. I still cook way too much food, but I always freeze the leftovers for those days that I just don't feel like cooking. (Love my Food Saver)

Virgo ah ha that does explain it!...LOL I was thinking about a food saver at one point!...I over cook but then my boys come and take it away ...since they are "on their own" they need more food than ever!...what I wonder is how I could have given birth to two sons and seem to be feeding four sons...there are two more that come over on a regular basis and offer to "clean out the frig" I do not remember giving birth to those two!!! LOL and do not mind at all it is nice to be known as the mom that can cook!....
