  • dream kitchen?

We are doing a huge remodel as some of you know and the crowning moment will be the kitchen ...next year ...we are broke now!!! I have a dream kitchen in mind but I am sure reality will kick in when I go to buy the stuff we need!!!
    What is your dream kitchen?
    Mine would have a
-6 burner gas stove with one of those high intensity wok burners and a grill
    -a huge yet quiet vent
-it would be an open kitchen instead of being stuck behind a wall cooking while everyone is out enjoying themselves
    - want a double oven with a warmer and a salemander (spelling?)
-a nice frig and freezer with lots of room ...
-a new dishwasher that actually washes the dishes instead of them needing to be washed before they go in ....
-a hot water tap over the stove for filling pots
    - a place for company to sit and help prep or just sit and drink while I cook!
    - lots of surfaces! and cutting areas!!!!
    - heated floor as I usually cook in bare feet and my feet get cold!!!!

    am I forgetting anything?

A pantry? I would kill for a nice pantry. I have owned two house in the past that had pantries and I sure do miss that. I hate digging through cabinets for canned goods.

I really want to remodel my kitchen, but like you, money is the hold up rigtht now. I have lived in this house for almost 13 years and still have the 1950's kitchen, although I have replaced my cook stove and refridgerator. My dishwasher works fine, but I bought it and installed it the day we moved into this house.

I have been mentally planning my new kitchen for a while now. Ah well, maybe someday!

Oh that sounds wonderful. I can't wait to do my dreamhouse someday. DH and I make lists of things we want after he retires and we settle somewhere. It will be so nice to have things just the way you want rather than the way they came from the sale.

oh yeah and a pantry ...a nice dry cool pantry!!!!...and a cool dry place to store veggies......with easy access so I do not just dump out the bag of groceries and slam the door shut!!!!.......money is a huge issue!!!!.....We made lists for years when my DH was in the service now it seems that we can address them but have no money for it!!!!.....oh well that is why I need to get off my butt now and head out the door...to make money...to pay for the new front door we are having put in ...gotta make the entry way a priority!!!!.....the front door is awful you can see daylight under it and put a match out when you hold one up next to it!!!....so the kitchen is at least a year off!!!...
What is on your dream kitchen list Brats?

Well for starter I would love gas but DH hates it so that will never happen. He is an electric cooker, which to me lacks something.

I think the main thing will be space, space, space. I want room for an island and a table. I would like a cove w/window for the seating area. The island to be large and functional. I also love those cabinets that are more like a drawer. It is so much eaier to see what you have in there. I liked a cabinet/pantry I saw just recently while we redid our kitchen, but couldn't afford. The one cabinet was 1200 stand alone. It came out in levels and had all of these diffeent folds that layered for storage. I was instantly in love. I also like dark countertops. Something that takes wear and tear. Oh I saw a neat thing once on a design show where the counter had a flip built in to swipe trash right through it into a basket below, made for easy cleanup. I love our trash compactor now. However, I find it is sometimes a bit cumbersome for the kids, who basically just set stuff on top till I come along and toss it. Oh last thing wall stoves, like the brady bunch. Seriously I love them

My neighbor is renovating her entire first floor. She moved the kitchen to the family room. So her new kitchen is a large room with a fireplace/dining area at one end and the kitchen part at the other. The areas are separated by a island/bar thing. She's also had the fireplace fitted with cooking equipment. Oh yeah, and she's enstalled granite counter tops.

There's a weird building code in my community that won't allow you to have gas appliances if the room has 2 exterior doors (don't ask me why). So she's stuck with electric.

My Dream Kitchen Wish List (Can apply to you too, Santa, if you're looking)

An indoor/outdoor kitchen. One that spills out into the manicured landscaped backyard. Lots of sitting nooks, stainless steel apliances but a very warm Mexican feel with tiles. Yummy bright colours! Indoor plants and a herb patch within hand reach. Now that's a tropical kitchen!

Brats4, I think I know the pantry/cabinet you are talking about. I have been drooling over that for years!

I have a bar that divides my kitchen from the dining area and I hate it! It is just a "catch all". I am forever cleaning it off. You know the old saying....Nature hates a vaccum....well my DH will fill up an empty counter. I swear that man does not know how to open a cabinet door! I tell everyone that I can hide anything in my kitchen cabinets and he will never find it! Sorry for the rant!

Back to the topic at hand: I have even gone to one of those Kitchen stores and had them design my kitchen on the computer and have my print out of the design. I am still tweeking that print out. Over all I like what they designed.

If you go to Lowes web site, they have a design program that you can design your own kitchen right there on line.

Isn't that the truth about the bar. We have on and its a clutter collector. Drives me insane

We remodeled our kitchen this year. We added a panty, two actually although one is more like a closet with cleaners, brooms, mop, vacuum and stuff in it. The other has pots in it and a wire pull-out shelving system.

We added a bar with cabinets underneath. Instead of having deep cabinets, we used thinner cabinets and mounted them back to back so that they run along both sides of the bar. They are the upper cabinets. The pattern on the doors is slightly different but nobody has noticed until having it pointed out to them. We did this so there would be less clutter in deeper cabinets and more usable space. Plus, it is easier to organize when you don't have to dig and dig for what you are looking for.

I would love to build my own house someday....

I am stuck with a crappy rental apartment kitchen at the moment. However, this one is slightly less crappy than the last, at least it has tons of space, and a pantry, which I love. All of the appliaces are electric (blech to electric stovetops), and of the 'Hotpoint' brand. The refridgerater lacks an automatic ice maker, something I miss from the last place.

What would I want? A huge range, with dual convection ovens underneath, six high output gas burners, and a combo grill/griddle unit, and a hood powerful enough to suck away all the smoke from searing steaks.

I would like all of the appliances to be industrial looking stainless steel, a full size fridge (single door, total fridge unit) with a full-size freezer right next to it. I would also like a high-output dishwasher that can get the burnt on gunk off.

Dual stainless steel sinks with a hanging dishwasher's station style faucet, and another one over the stove for filling pots (excellent idea Nurselady).

A Salamander could be fun, but as long as my ovens have high enough heat output I could get by with a strong industrial broiler. A built in, in-countertop professional deep fryer that filters it's own oil would be awesome though.

Speaking of countertops, concrete, granite, stainless steel, or butcher's block all around. An island could be nice if there is enough space, maybe with a secondary cooktop installed for when working with lots at the same time. Plenty of counter space for all of my appliances is a must, blender, toaster oven, stand mixer, food processor, meat grinder (Don't have one yet, want to get one), and etc. Since having a pantry now, I could not go back to not having one. I love being able to leave my dry goods out on the shelves in open site, makes it much easier to find what I am looking for.

While those high-output Wok burners look cool, I am not into Asian food to justify the space, plus the output on those things is scary-high.

                        EDIT:

                        Forgot to add:

Hanging hooks/racks for all of my cookware so I just reach up and grab what I need. Also a complete set of All-Clad copper cookware to go with the new kitchen would be nice too.

I just saw one of those water taps over a stove, but shouldn't they be cold water. Thats so cool.
I will also be remodeling my kitchen when I retire and I wish I had room for everything that I want.
                            Gas for sure
Cabinets for each appliance and some on those roll out shelves that come up so you down have to ever move them, especially the kitchaid mixer that weighs a ton.
Nurselady, are you going to just open that wall and make it one big kitchen. Who needs a living room

I mean't to write hot and cold tap it can be either from what I understand it used to be a concern with the pipes but now you can use hot tap water for cooking as the pipes are fine....
I agree who needs a living room!!! I think we can put that downstairs!!! just have a huge open kitchen and dining area upstairs! DH is taking out the garage wall in the dining area to put a built in shelving and drawers on that side!...I can display my unusual dish collection!!! LOL
