  • Help, need pizza sauce!

I am going to make this pizza

    http://genaw.com/lowcarb/deep_dish_pizza.html

It calls for pizza sauce but everything I am looking at has sugar sugar sugar. Can anybody suggest an alternative?

Also, is the net carbs correct for this? I am assuming it is not counting the toppings (it doesn't say). If so, that means I can eat half the thing without breaking my carb counts for today (altho I only plan on eating 2 slices)

How about just putting thinly sliced tomato on top of or under the cheese? You can also try just crushed tomato.

Here my family uses Pizza Squeeze, maybe look and see if they carry that locally and if it would work?

I use Ragu No Sugar Added spaghetti sauce, but it has 8 net carbs per half cup, so you would have to be very careful with portion size.

              Re: Help, need pizza sauce!

I make my own pizza sauce using Escalon 6-in-1 ground tomatoes (4 net carbs per half cup), a little freshly grated Parmesan cheese, basil, granulated garlic and a little Splenda. Put in blender and pulse to the consistency you want.

I use a store brand pizza sauce that has 4 carbs per 1/4 cup and is just tomato puree, (less than 2% of the rest) dehydrated garlic, natural flavor, salt, soybean oil, and citric acid. It costs me 98 cents a jar. It's only about 1.5 cups in the jar, but I use it sparingly and it tastes great, so I don't care.

WalMart has a store brand pizza Sauce (Great Value) that's wonderful! It has 3 net carbs for 1/4 cup and no added sugar. It's also cheap. I doubt I use a 1/4 cup on the whole pizza.

Eden Pizza and Pasta Sauce is THE BEST!! It's organic, so you might only be able to find it at a health food store (thats where I get mine,) but it is DEFINITELY worth it. So good, all natural ingredients, no sugar, great texture and flavor and very low in carbs.

I've also used Wal-Mart's Great Value brand and it's pretty good. My favorite is Ragu pizza sauce. It has no sugar added. However, watch out because their Pizza Quick sauce does have sugar.
