  • Need advice on Fish.

I have NEVER been a seafood eater. I don't do shrimp, lobster, crabs, fish, oysters....once in a great while I'll eat a tuna sandwich (pre-atkins obviously) but with all the goodies in it..onion, tomato, pickles, mayo, lettuce.
So that being said. Can someone suggest a fish I could eat that doesn't taste sooooooo fishy?
I served myself a piece of salmon and once I cut into it the fish smell was so intense I had to leave the table.

I think tilapia, whitefish, and catfish would be less..

Halibut, tilapia, mahi-mahi are all great NON-FISHY fish. They're nice and white and flaky. A good way to eat fish is with lemon juice--something acidic helps "cut" the fishyness/oily taste.

Thumper, shall I move this thread to one of the food sections of the board? You may get more responses there.

SWORDFISH! It's a little expensive, but if you get a nice steak of it and throw it on the grill it is soooo good. I wasn't much of a fish eater as a kid, but I loved swordfish. It is so dense it's almost like beef.

can you get decent fish in Arizona?

Yes, you can get decent fish in AZ, we have freight trains coming from California and trucks from Mexico. So we get a lot of catfish, salmon (mostly farm bred, not too good), shrimp (from Mexico as well) but one fish I would recommend you is Tilapia. It is farm bred in Mexico, it is a mid-size cichlid which tastes great and has no carbs and barely any fat at all. It is very high in proteins.

My wife and I like it in foil, at 375F for 30 minutes, you can add herbs if you want to hide the fish taste, but really it is not too fishy tasting, not as bad as tuna, that is.

Oh yeah, I forgot: we get the Tilapia at Sprout's. We could not find it another place yet, not Fry's nor Basha's but we'll look for it at Walmart.
