  • Horned Melon?!?!?

This thing apparently is a... what? Somewhere between a fruit and a veggie?

The nutritional info I found looks teriffic - even suitable for induction, at 2 net carbs per whole (whatever) but of course, since it's relatively new on the international market, it isn't on most foods lists, much less Atkins' legal list.

What do you think about this? I've got one, but haven't tried it ...yet.

Give us some feedback when you do. Looking at that pictured turned my stomach, doesn't look too appealing to me.

I looked at the title line and thought it said "horny melon". Oops! No idea what a HORNED melon is.

I'm going to try mine and since the link suggested to use it as you would a cucumber, that's what I'll do. Supposedly you eat the whole thing. Only problem is, I don't know if mine was picked green or ripe (apparently it makes a big difference). It's certainly ripe now, as I've been staring at it on my kitchen counter for the last week! I hope (like most globally shipped produce) it was picked green & won't taste like a banana!

              Re: Horned Melon?!?!?

See, i'd be HOPING it tasted like banana. That way I'd have a very low-carb substitute!

                Re: Horned Melon?!?!?

I've had this. It is reminiscent of a cross between a cucumber, and something, but I'm not sure what. I wouldn't go out and buy it again.

My husband has to try every strange fruit and vegetable at the grocery store. He's very adventerous.

                  Re: Horned Melon?!?!?

Well, folks, I did try horned melon - 1 slice. Nothing to write home about, but I'll say it was rather like the middle of an overripe cuke. (The part I don't much care for because the seeds are too bigm the flesh too bitter & watery). At least the seeds weren't so big, but the skin was tough and texture weird.
