We just have to be careful with it. If we control it, it's an excellent legal way to treat ourselves.

I like the coconut one... I make sugar free jelly (jello) with it. Nice.

Re: Which davinci syrups are a must have?

Oh, no need to apologise Scooter. These syrups are good, if you don't mind the taste.

But I prefer to use the extracts because they taste more 'real' to me and because I can control the sweetener amount. I've tried using the syrups in ice cream, custards, etc. and they give these things a very artificial flavor, imo.

Like I said, they taste better when they flavor decaf coffee because the bitterness of the coffee seems to mask the artificial taste for me (except for the chocolate---it smells and tastes "waxy" to me even in decaf coffee. Hershey's Sugar Free Chocolate Syrup does a better job flavoring coffee, and other things, imo<--- plus I can find that at Safeway so I don't have to mail order anything.) So for me their use is limited to coffee drinks and that really limits their use for me because I drink decaf coffee maybe once a week if that at all, which doesn't make them very cost effective.

Re: Which davinci syrups are a must have?

Actually Megs I definately agree on the extracts, I don't buy any s/f syrups that I can buy an extract for with the exception of maple. Pluse most of the Davincis aren't avaialbe here anyway, only occaisionally at a local store, i normally have to buy when in the states. Though I do buy, and love, Carey's s/f maple syrup and to me it tastes and has the consistency of the sugared one (aunt jemima though, not the real stuff unfortunately).

One of the things i don't like about the syrups in recipes is they can be watery, and can water things down too much to get enough flavour out of them. i find the best one being Kaluha, as far as baking with. for sweetening things like cottage cheese or yogurt though they're pretty good.

unsweetened Extracts that I buy at the grocery store that I love and find really handy are coconut, lemon, banana, vanilla. I also have cinnamon -though i rarely use this, i prefer the powder. The banana is my favourite for both baking and smoothies.
