  • Going Away Food Help....

Not sure if this is where I should post this.. But this coming weekend I am going out of town for my daughters dance competition. The motel that we are staying in is a lot more expensive then the last one we stayed in.. Its a Marriott also.. So that means if I eat there breakfast its going to probably cost me like $15. I was sitting here trying to think of what in the world I could take in a little cooler that would be filling just for breakfast. My daughter I could pack her poptarts or a bagel or something.. She doesn't like to eat much breakfast.. Saturday she will be to nervous.. and Sunday she will be at class early.

Not sure if this place has a buffet for breakfast in the morning cause I didn't eat in there... Which I am going to ask a friend tonight.. Last time I wasn't doing Atkins and just took Cereal bars..and fruit

    Any suggestions..
I don't want to take Boiled Eggs with me cause they stink.. Also I really would probably only get enough ice from the ice machine to keep the food cold..No fridge..

When we travel, I take cold cuts. I cube cheese in a zipper bag, and take ham, turkey, salami and or pepperoni all in zipperd bags. You can also peel and chop finger vegis, like cukes and peppers. A small insulated bag and ice from the machine you are set,. It seems boring but when yout think of all the money you are not spending.
I also will carry pork rinds for evening snacking when kids are running to the vending machine, also seeds and nuts travel well when you are in OWL

      Hi Sandy,

Rscott29 was asking about this yesterday and I said:

I go on quite few trips so have honed the art of eating ATkins away.

As long as you don't mind the occasion weird look the following are great ideas:
      - pepperami meats (check for sugar) can be good
      - nuts in a little box can be a lifesaver
      - You can get small cheeses individually wrapped which are ok even if not in the fridge for about 2 days - ones in wax (like Babybel) are particulary good
      - You can take a boxed salad but they don't keep too long
      - If you can't cool anything veggies that don't wilt quickly are sticks of celery and cherry tomatos.
      - for fruit blueberries are best at being transported, unless you have worked you way up to apples
-small cans of tuna can be handy though you need to be able to drain the oil somewhere, so it can be messy.

Disregard suggestions not on your part of this WOE! Good luck with it - it can be very frustrating to eat away from home and I usually get a bit hungry but there are ways around it.

        Re: Going Away Food Help....

hey! we went to the marriott in san francisco recently and believe me i was nervous about eating out....they had the BEST made to order omelets for breakfast! i had that and some sausage (just a little)....i was HAPPY.

funny thing was that all the breads and rolls staring at me did not bother me at all.

i know you are asking about suggestions for things to TAKE but if you are in a pinch, the price was NOT bad (i am a cheapy head!)

OOOOO I forgot tuna in a pouch. I collect mayo packets in gas stations and but the tuna bags. The lemon pepper is good w/o mayo too.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions.. I was trying to stay a little cheap.. This motel is about an hour from my house...and I was hoping to be able to cancel one nights room to save like $200.. But we just got the schedule and we have to be there Friday Night until 10:20 is when they start awards.. which means 11 or so. And then I have to be back there Saturday morning before 8:48...for another of the girls dances and it doesn't end until 11:15 at night with awards..which means 12.. Of course my daughters dances are 11:34,3:12 and 9:49.. So spaced out.. Grrrr. Problem is.. If you go out and eat somewhere...you have to pay each time you go back to the convention center..for parking.. Doesn't that stink.. GRRR.. Also.. I am paying more to stay at this motel then I did when I traveled to North Carolina...last weekend
