  • Soy Beans/Edamame

So I picked up a bag of edamame yesterday for the first time, I do like soy milk and tofu so I figure I should give them a try.

These are the already shelled ones, apparently you don't eat the shells anyway so i figured this would be easier.

So now...what do i do with them? just boil steam and eat with butter/salt? The bag says to boil and eat as a snack with salt.

I'm hoping I like them...are they ever cheap!!!

If they're de-shelled, use them like you would frozen green peas.

They taste sorta like lima beans to me.

I've only bought the shelled kind, and I steam them, and then salt them when they're done. Salt heavily in fact. Then you pop the beans out of the shells into your mouth. This is how they're served in Japanese restaurants. I love them.

Since you just have the beans, i'd boil them and lightly salt them.

Megs is right. I'd never thought about it before, but they remind me of lima beans too.

mmmm I love lima beans...Jeez kinda wished i'd tried these before now.

I might try them tonight with dinner.

Miss phode they had both the shelled and unshelled htere, I just figured these were easier. I'll have to try the ones in the pods next time i'm at the store.

          I'm hoping I like them, they're only 1.35 a bag!

You know, I've never tried them before, always saw them in the store, but never ventured past that. Thanks for posting what to do with them.

Do you all eat them just washed and as a snack? One of the local stores has had them sitting out like a sample to just eat straight like that. I haven't tried them since I don't know what the carb count is but the kids like to grab one or two when we go.

If they are the whole bean, you can defrost and heat them up (microwave or boil). When I used to eat edamame, I would buy the frozen kind and simply defrost them. Then eat. You don't eat the pod. What you do is hold one end, stick the pod in your mouth, then pull the pod out, letting your teeth squeeze the beans out of the pod as you pull.

But with the shelled beans, use them like you would frozen green peas or lima beans.
