  • Splenda Pellets vs. Packets?

I'm not sure where else to post this...

I haven't been able to find Splenda packets at the grocery store (I'm in the UK) but I was able to find one of those little Splenda pellet dispensers.

Does anyone know if one pellet is equivalent to one packet? It seems to taste that way, somewhat, but I thought that I would ask here to get a definitive answer...

    TY

      Re: Splenda Pellets vs. Packets?

I actually just found the pellets shopping today (I was looking for the packets--argh American expatriate can't find my packets ) The nutrition facts (from one pellet to one packet) are exactly the same. I think what causes the carb content in powdered splenda is whatever they use to bulk it out, apparantly pure sucralose is extremely sweet so they have to flush it out with something else. Logically I would think being in a smaller form, less ingredents to flush it out, it would be the same or even slightly better. This is just my logic though. Unless you are eating an entire container of it as a snack (I knew a girl that ate Splenda with a spoon...yea...) I would think the difference is insignificant.

Thanks!!!! That is very helpful..you have confirmed my initial suspicion.

Curse the UK for not having the packets! It's so hard to find sugar free stuff here. I'm an American Expat too! Just moved to London last year. You'd think in London that sugar free stuff would be easy to find, but I have discovered that this is NOT the case at all.

You can order a lot of American sugar free stuff online but it's a pain (I'm always at work when the Parcel Force tries to drop by....) and the prices are exorbitant, but then again that's the UK for you....an item that is $5.99 in the US is 5.99 sterling. Crazy stuff...

So cool to find another expat here.....how are you getting on in the UK?

Although I am British I have lived a long time away from there and am about to move back. My DH thinks I am crazy because I'm bringing 500 packets of splenda with me. Yes they have the pellets in the UK, which I love too but for cooking I hate that bulky stuff that costs an arm and a leg, does anyone know if the pellets are better because they don't have the fillers? ie; is is better to dissolve a pellet in some liquid and add to cooking as opposed to using the bulkier stuff? I get so envious of people who can buy liquid splenda of DaVinic syrups in Walmart. I spent a month in Florida last year and most of my time was used up trawling all the stores searching for this elixir!

I am getting on pretty good! I can't work yet, I am on a Fiance visa so I have the time to play in the kitchen--although it leaves me rather isolated, lonely, etc.. I have a rant in another thread about the craziness of prices ordering things like dressings (the ones here are crazy loaded with sugar, I don't get it--and NO RANCH!!!). I couldn't even find unsweetened baking chocolate for cooking pre-Atkins, I was told I need to find a speciality baking shop Yes, London is a big place to have such a little selection (although for produce and other fresh things, I can't remember the name of it, there is a big market in the city, near London Bridge. Someone picked me up some lovely seasoned olive oil from there. It is nice to splurge on legal things. I was thinking of wandering up there when I am free, I think it is only open on weekends which is the only time I am ever busy)

I know packets DO exist because my fiance nicks them from the cafe at a building he was working in, maybe it would be worth finding a restarant supply and buying a bulk lot of them. Or I could get him to bargain with the staff (they are being made redundant in 2 weeks or so, have stopped caring) to get a box and I can send some out I'll bug him about it.

If you have any expat frustrations, feel free to unload them on me, I am chock full of them. Man I know how to make a post long!

I have been using liquid Splenda. No fillers whatsoever! I can't believe how far a few drops goes. I order mine from www.pureliquidsweetness.com - not sure about ordering from outside the country, though. Might want to check it out and see if that is an option.
