  • GF Grill

I just got the new George Foreman grill -- the one that looks more like a fax machine than a grill. The color scheme perfectly matches my computer, but I still keep it in the kitchen. This is what the GF grill should have been in the beginning. It has alarms that tell you when it's preheated and when the cooking time is up. Yup, has a timer and temperature control. Best of all, it has removable grill plates that can be put in the dishwasher. I can't tell you how many women I've talked to (including my mom) who put away their grill because they couldn't get it white-glove-clean between uses. Men know that it's a GRILL. It's perfectly acceptable to just scrape between uses (or not). Last week's sirloin adds character to today's burgers. I highly recommend this appliance. I use it nearly every day.

Okay, you all will laugh at me for this because this is the ultimate in penny-pinching...but I figured out a way to make gravy if you cook on the Foreman grill.

First off, instead of throwing out the drippings, save them in a small saucepan. Next after you remove the meat, slowly pour hot water over the bottom grill plate, collecting the run-off. Add that to the saucepan. Bring the contents of the sauce pan to a boil and boil until it's reduced by half. Add the thickener of your choice and voila "pan gravy" from the Foreman grill.

I take exception LOL....I am a woman! and nothing in my home life ever gets glove white clean ...except the bathroom and yeah I do have issue with that!!! LOL!....all my appliances have a lovely patinia ...so do my cookbooks!!! They are well loved and very well used!!!.....I figure as long as I get the germy parts off that is all I care about.....people know I USE MY KITCHEN!!!!....it is by no means dirty ...just well used!!!....and never white glove clean because something is always cooking!!!....

I am flirting with the idea of buying one of these because they sound so fun to use... but to be honest I have these wonderful seasoned cast iron stove top grills I got years ago for myself and each one of my sons...I am wondering what benefit would be for me ...we even deglaze it for sauces as Megs mentioned....do you think there is any advantage over this? I am also getting a new cooktop in the spring with a built in grill ...so what would be the benefit for me? if any or just bag it?

The advantage to using a GF is the speed. You can fully grill a ribeye in just five minutes. Chicken breasts take about 6 minutes. There's also less grease splatter. The only meat I fry anymore is pork chops because I like to add a splash of soy sauce during the last minute. I love my cast iron skillets. I got one with a lid from Cracker Barrel once that weighs about 14 pounds.

Cast iron is a good work out!

this is actually a griddle with ridges that covers the two side burners (I have a gas stove) it does not spatter or spit and does cook a steak in 5 min and a chicken breast in 6 is simple to clean....I just deglaze it) so I guess I should save my money...thanks so much for the answer!

How hot does the GF grill get? Is it enough to put a nice char on the outside of a steak while still leaving the middle nice and rare? The convenience issue sounds nice, but I know to do a steak on my cast iron I need to get it smoking (literally) hot first, can the GF handle this?

Hey thanks for mentioning the new GF Grill! Sounds like a great new item. I just cooked on the "old" one tonight, love it, but it is a pain to drag out, and then some of the drippings were missing the little plastc thing. And yeah.. a pain to clean. I cooked venison on it and it was very tasty. I will look into the new one like you have.

Exactly it is an art get that sucker smoking hot molten!!!... then hit it with your meat, fish or veggies ...turn 1/4 at 1 min .(longer for chicken or pork but for a rare steak or fish this is the timing)..cook 1 min 30 seconds flip same on other side off and rest! that is it....char on the outside rare on the inside ..this his how I do my tuna steaks....grilled sashimi...(although the mercury is making me nervous these days!)

Nullo, I only cook chicken, turkey, swordfish and tuna on my Foreman grill. Sometimes I'll do pork chops. But lamb chops and steaks, I do in a cast iron pan: I eat these meats maybe once a month or every two months so I don't mind doing the skillet.

The temperature display goes up to 425. I don't think there's a Cajun setting on it.

What is the cost of this new GF Grill? My mother gave me one years ago but after the teflon wore off and I got tired of cleaning it, I pitched it. This one sounds totally improved and easy to clean!!!!
