  • Silpat Mat

I am looking into buying a mat and am wondering if there is a difference in the silpat mats or the silicon mats they sell like in Walmart. Any tips or do's and dont's? Thanks in Advance!

    Re: Silpat Mat

I almost bought a silpat mat the other day but didn't, I've heard great things about them however! It was just too expenseive ($30) to justify at the time.

Would the silicone mats at walmart have the same non stick qualities? that's what i would worry about...i'd probably go with the original.

      Re: Silpat Mat

Lovvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvve my silpat mat. Unfortunately, the things I used to bake on it, I am not currently making. Biscuits, cookies, etc...

When you bake on it, the finished goods literally slip right off.

Don'ts: Unless you spill something gooey on it, don't actually wash it with soap. It is recommended that you wipe it thoroughly with a clean cloth to cleanse it, and this is true. Washing it, even by hand, decreases the non-stick properties and it is sooooo hard to get the soap taste off of it afterwards - so it transfers to your baked goods. Ew. Just wipe. It get baked, and stores dry so if you wipe it well, it should remain sanitary.
