  • Newbie here question?

Hi I am totally new and lost about Atkins and induction but I read away. Love the recipes they sound great, Since all do not specify if induction, I'll just check with Atkins Diabetic Revolution and see if it is on list.
I do not know where to find the products and ingredients, I am stumped :confused . The book I mentioned suggests: nitrate free turkey bacon, jolly rancher sugar free jello: low carb bread 3 net carbs. Also, what kind of turkey do you suggest I get? Butterball - frozen and cook myself? Deli? How about ham, what do you suggest there? Dressings? Where do I shop to find these items, Health food stores or reg. grocery stores. I could use a little help from my friends right now. I have already lost 5 lbs in just 4 days doing it as I understand it. I know it is kind of rough but I do not know how to do all this counting. I've lost 10 lbs. total. So, I really want to do this but it seems my book is not complete picture of the Atkins plan. However, I do have to make these considerations. In my book I can have decaf coffee and I think Hood low carb milk - like drind in coffee, and I can have margarine like "take control" it says so long as it is trans-fat free. Since I am a new heart patient as well. I have posted but with no responses to any of those yet, so hope to hear back on my posts. Hope it's okay to ask questions about foods here.
I'll be reading and printing. Please all responses greatly appreciated. I am so glad to have the weight loss I could :icondance Thanks for sharing and listening.

Sugar free and nitrate free bacon can be difficult to find. You need to read the packages. Gwaltney sells a sugar free bacon: it isn't nitrate free though. Nitrate free/sugar free bacons can be found in some specialty butcher's shops and whole foods or organic stores.

Jolly Rancher gelatin can be found with the other pre-made gelatins in the supermarket. In my area only one supermarket sells it and they don't stock it all the time. You can use the search feature to find the recipe to make your own gelatin dessert.

Low carb breads---quite simply, they are not acceptable for Atkins Induction. According to Dr. Atkins, no grains are allowed during the Atkins Induction phase, period. The low carb breads, including the Atkins brand, are made with grains. They are more appropriately introduced during the OWL phase of Atkins.

We use Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution 2002 edition (DANDR 2002)on ADBB. There are some major differences between the plan written in DANDR 2002 and Atkins Diabetes Revolution.

actually the diabetic board uses the Atkins diabetic book as our own Canuck is a success story in it and they have slighly different ionduction siiues then nondiabetics especiasly iif they are on meds for it.

Be carefull with the butterball as they have many diferent kinds and some have addatives. you can check in the deli and see if they have boars head brand as they don't use fillers or stuff in their products.

Joy, where do you live. If you live in the US, Trader Joes has nitrate-free meat and lots of low carb stuff.
