The shanks were good! I had it with a turnip and cauliflower puree.
I browned them and put them in a casserole dish. Into the pan I browned the hanks, I cooked 1/2 cup chopped celery, 1/2 cup chopped onion, 1 tablespoon tomato paste, and 2 garlic cloves, until the onions were soft and translucent. I added 1/2 can Miller Lite Beer (I'm sure wine will work too!) and a cup of chicken broth. Brought it to a boil and poured it over the browned shanks.
I covered the casserole and shoved it into a pre-heated 325 degree oven for 1 hour. Then I uncovered it and let it cook for another 3 hours, turning those shanks every 45 minutes. I defatted the sauce and pureed the solids in a blender, boiled it and had an really nice gravy!
