  • ok I finally roasted a rutabega

and what was the point of that? it was pretty bad..they are medicinal andtaste like they sound... ..I thought this was going to be better than a turnip ...but after I almost cut my hand trying to peel and slice the damn thing and then whacking them into cubes then roasting them for about ...ever.....and they smell awful worse than the cauliflower smelled roasting....then the taste was awful....ok I tried them I want that on record and I always try things three times ..but someone else is going to cook them if they want me to taste these again ....yuk...I am not getting rugabegas!!!! :thumbsdo:

Never roasted them, but I have boiled them with good results.

well unless you want your house to smell like rutabegas or you have a decent fan to suck that aroma out ...I say give this one a miss!!!....and yes they were "good" rutabegas if there is such a thing???

my family loves them . Just boil them up and do like mashed potatoes. I add butter, pepper and a salt replacement with herbs. I didn't discover them until I was in my 20's and have come to perfer them to potatoes(good thing now). In my opinion they have more flavour. Yeah they are a ***** to peel and slice. :wolfie

try cooking them whole and then cutting in half and scooping them out like a winter squash. I used it in Brook's mock baked apples recipe but put it all in the oven instead of the frying pan. it was soft and not as crunchy as the jicama she uses.
