  • What to make for a Superbowl party?

Any suggestions? I thought of buffalo wings but the party is at my sister's house and I didn't think she'd be overjoyed if I brought something so messy - they're an accident waiting to happen yanno. Any party favorites you guys make will appease "the guys" but are still Atkins friendly?

    heh

well it was our tradition to make unedible hot wings ...

heh you probably dont want to do this but

we took tabasco ( large jug ) and left the wings overnight in the tabasco.

Then took a bottle of daves insanity hot sauce and added it to the mix.

Then we cut up fresh halepenos and added it in there.

Then started the barbeque. From there we would either make an pouch out of aluminum foil and put liquid and the wings in there or use a pyrex dish put right on the barbeque.

to boil the wings in the sauce. then we would take some wings out and put them on the barbeque and then rotate them from the hotsauce mix to the barbeque so that each wing spent some time in the sauce and some time on the grill. We would continue this until all of the sauce evaporated and condensed on the wing.

They are the hottest wings you can have ... you can not eat more than one ... more of a practical joke than a yummy dish

One of our all-time favorites (even pre-Atkins) are paper-thin salami with a teaspoon or so of cream cheese, rolled-up. You could do any deli meat and cheese rollups as well. For the non-low-carbers, you could add small rolls so they could make a sandwich.

Heh these are unedible ... kind of tasty ... but you need like 15 minutes to get bast the numbness around your mouth.

Try the recipe ... you could even leave out the daves insanity ...
pretty much make some hot gook and soak the wings overnight in the solution.

When ready to cook boil the wings / solution on the grill and rotate the wings where they spend hald the time in the boiling solution and the other half on the grille.

always remember to warn your guests that these wings may be "a little hot" :yes :yikes

A sliced deli meat platter would go over well. You could include little blocks of cheese or cream cheese, cucumber slices, peppers both hot and mild, etc, for a "roll your own" appetizer station. Make sure to use a brand of sliced meat that does not have a lot of sugar or maltodextrin or food starch in it.

Mini-thingys (I haven't named them yet. Anyhow, there are no real measurements because it's one of those make as many as you need type recipes...)

                  mini muffin tin
bulk sausage meat (like a Jimmy Dean sausage roll)
parmesan cheese (the stuff in the can works well)
                  grated/shredded cheddar cheese
                  eggs

Sautee the sausage meat and break it up like you would ground beef. Set aside and cool.

Into each of the muffin cups, put a teaspoon of parmesan cheese. Jiggle the pan so the cheese is evenly spread at the bottom. Put a teaspoon of the cooked sausage on top, do not mix it in with the cheese. Beat the eggs, add a teaspoon of mustard and tabasco (if you want it), beat well. Add enough of the egg mixture just to barely cover the sausage. Top with a teaspoon of cheddar cheese Bake in a 350 degree oven until the thingys are golden brown on top.

You can also make meatballs and cover them with a Buffalo sauce.

I was at Sam's today and they have a new all meat appetizer platter from Echrich (I think) -- sliced pepperoni, sliced hard salami, sliced genoa salami. Personally --- I have taken thick sliced pepperoni with smoked gouda to several events and have come back with an empty plate every time! Get the pepperoni in rolls, and cut it thick. Then get the smoked gouda in the wedge and just place the pepperoni slices around it, and let everyone cut a hunk out of the wedge! I also, get the gouda presliced at the deli (make sure it has sheets between the slices -- the slices will stick together!) . It's usually in large circles, and I cut those into pie wedges and then put a slice of pepperoni on the cheese wedge. Then you can also have some crackers in a basket for people who like their cheese and pepperoni on crackers! Great Atkins snack!

Korean California rolls I make them for parties not messy fits most everyones diet just put a pile of sushi nori cut in half so they are squares on a plate, then on another plate in a circle put piles of thin sliced veggies like peppers, green onions, diakon, cabbage whatever you like, then a pile of thin strips of egg pancake...then each person makes a roll with the veggies inside on their plates and the dipping sauce is soy, wasabi and pickled ginger together....yum.....this one is always an empty platter and it looks nice as well
