  • Which should I do?

I have a birthday party I am planning tomorrow for my Mom, brother and niece (all January birthdays). I am making brother and niece and her son all a regular cake, but I want to make my Mom, DH and I all a sugar free low carb dessert (Mom needs something to put candles in too). Mom is a diabetic. Anyway, I am tossing between a no-bake cheesecake I found on LindaSue's website that has Knox gelatin, cream cheese, liquid Splenda, whip cream and lemon rind in it (2 net carbs per serv) or should I use a Dixie Carb Counters Cinnamon Swirl Snack Cake mix with 2 net carbs? I am not sure how they even taste, but I have had the mix around for a while. I keep thinking the one I make myself would be better--but do people experience a stall eating something like this? Any other suggestions?

Thanks for the help or any other suggestions.

I have no idea about the Dixie Carb Counters Cinnamon Swirl Snack Cake but anything you make yourself always tastes better. I make the regular Philly cheesecake or cheese pie using powdered splenda and either a nut crust or no crust

Mmmm, the no-bake cheesecakes are fab!!!

I made the Peanut Butter one for Thanksgiving and it was a huge hit!

I echo Lauren on the anything made at home taste better.

        Enjoy your party!

It will also depend on what Phase of Atkins you are in if you want to eat it. Linda's cheesecake recipe is legal for Induction Phase based on the ingredients, if I'm not mistaken. So be sure to check the mix you bought to see if those ingredients are legal for your phase of the diet---afterall, you don't want to mess up your weight loss.

            Re: Which should I do?

I looked up the Dixies cake mix. I would not have it on induction. It contains, among other things:

            unbleached white flour
            corn starch
            low glycemic monosacharide

The first two are definitely NOT allowed, the last I don't really know anything about, but I'd be suspicious.

According to the nutritional info, it has 2 net carbs per serving - but a serving is one ninth of the cake, or 14.5g. Now I don't know about you, but a 14.5g serving, which is about half an ounce, does not seem like much cake to me!!!

I'd definitely skip it and go for one of Linda's recipes. At least you know for sure then what you are eating.

Mindboggling how manufacturers work isn't it?

                Re: Which should I do?

Thank you all for your help. I really appreciate it and it was such fast help too. I am on Induction, so I am going with the LindaSue's No-Bake Cheesecake and then I am only eating a little bit. The whole purpose was to have a "plan" on how to handle this birthday party. It was going to be a hurdle. I can make a low carb dinner for everyone and they won't know the diff, but the dessert is another story. I made a German Choc Cake for my brother, niece and her son because my DH hates German Choc Cake (he is on Induction too) and I am not overly fond of it. My thoughts were to make a low carb SF dessert for Mom since she is a diabetic and that way my DH and I could have some too. So, the No-Bake Cheesecake will work perfect. I can even put candles on it. All of this stuff is going out of the house with them when they leave tonight. I still think the No-Bake Cheesecake is a little pushing it on Induction, but I did stick my fingers in it when I made it and it tasted wonderful, especially before the whipping cream.

By the way, you guys are all doing well - how encouraging!
