  • Help -so confused!

    Hi all. Can anyone please clear up my confusion about pork sausages? In DANDR it states that 2 links of pork sausages = 2 grams digestable carbs. But on the Atkins web site they claim that each link of pork sausage is 0.1 gram of carbs.
    Which one should I go with?

    Plus, where do you go to buy your sausages? In Australia we have so many different types of sausages and they all usually have quite a few carbs in them. I bought some pork ones from the butcher so I hope I can trust them.

    Any info much appreciated

    you need to ask your butcher what ingredients he's put in them, generally they add breadcrumbs or something bad!

    you can ask him to make you some that have only pork and seasoning in, but other than that i would truly be very careful and stay away from them as they but anything and everything in them!

      I just get the prepackaged sausage link from the meat section of my store. I'm a big fan of Medium spicy and Sage sausage. I would go with what Dr. Atkins says but you also need to know whats in the things you buy as well.

        Many of the sausages bought prepackaged in the store have curing or sugar on them. The sugar, makes for a good taste, but it is also used as a preservative or "stabilizer".

        Most of the time, you are better off going to a butcher shop, asking them what they put in it or asking them to make you some without sugar/fillers.

          I find they can really range in carbs, so i would definately go by whats on teh packaging of your own product, rather than either what DANDR says or Atkins.com.

          I know alot of breakfast sausages here contain brownsugar, corn syrup, or maple syrup (or sometimes all 3!).
