  • Uh-oh Did I just eat "Frankenfood?!" "0 NET

    :yikes

I've just completed 3 weeks of induction - first week was not clean so I did it right and lost 9.2 lbs. I feel great. HOWEVER, DH went to whole foods and brought home the following:

Cocoa Noir brand chocolate bar, which screams across the front of its elegant packaging: 0 NET IMPACT CARBS. I throughly enjoyed this, then read the fine print:

total carb: 15g (fiber 3g) must be the nuts...
there is no sugar -- is that why they say "no impact?"

the website for this product is www.cocoanoir.com

    HELP!

Well, yes, you did eat frankfoods. Those bars are loaded with Malitol, one of the worst sugar alcohols, as most LC candy bars are. I recommend you read the sugar alcohol FAQ ASAP.

Anyway, it isn't totally awful, it shouldn't blow your induction, just make sure you look out for anything ending in -ol in the ingredient lists in LC products for a while, as most are sugar alcohols, and not very induction friendly.

I agree with Nullo. You didn't do yourself any favors by partaking in it with it being full of malitol. You certainly didn't irreparably damage your WOE however. Learn from the misstep, and move on eating whole foods.

        Thanks...

WOW -- I guess truth in labeling won't happen in our lifetimes. No wonder so many people get frustrated if they use the processed "lo carb" items out there. Even the Atkins site OK's "their" lo-carb tortillas, etc.

The good news is that, even tho I recognized this as "good" chocolate, I really didn't enjoy it that much and it has kicked in NO cravings!

Still really angry about being misled.... :anger
