  • Alternatives to Almond Flour

When I first low-carbed several years ago, almond flour was affordable. The other day I checked out the prices for almond flour, and nearly hit the floor. Is there anything else we can use besides almond flour that doesn't cost an arm and a leg?

    Re: Alternatives to Almond Flour

There are lots of substitutions, depending on the method of cooking and the recipe. Are you baking something, or planning on using the flour as a coating?

Induction/Rung 1 LEGAL: crushed pork rinds, parmesan cheese
Rung 3 LEGAL: almond meal (you can buy whole almonds and grind them in a coffee grinder. It's "meal" and not flour, but you can still bake with it), coconut flour, coconut meal, flax meal, pecan meal
    Rung 6 LEGAL: Soy flour
Rung 9 LEGAL: Wheat flour, oat flour, quinoa, corn meal, rye flour, spelt flour, etc.

I want something I can bake with. I also looked into coconut flour, but it's also a little pricey. Thanks for all the suggestions. I'll probably just use whole wheat flour or maybe a combination of whole wheat and flax meal.
