  • Um.. need recommendations for Induction phase.

I depend on my parents to cook for me. I am 17 years old, I think I am old enough to be in the kitchen. However, my parents are busy people, they wouldn't be there to help out at all times, so I will have to learn by trial and errors.

I am starting my phase soon. I need to learn how to prepare meals that are tasty and easy for newbies. Know of any? Thanks alot!

    Hi and welcome.

Learning to cook is a very important skill (almost as important as learning to balance a checkbook and do household budgeting, imo).

What I suggest to you is to go to the library and get some basic cookbooks. The books by Julia Child, especially "The Way to Cook" and "Kitchen Wisdom" are good basic cook books and she writes in a very clear way. The books by the editors of Cook's Illustrated Magazine are very good too.

The other thing I suggest is to watch some cooking shows. Don't get freaked out by the "exotic" ingredients or by number of steps in the recipes or the equipment they are using. Watch them for the cooking technique and the cooking hints these chefs mention.

The other thing you'll need is good equipment. Look around your kitchen and see if you have measuring cups and measuring spoons. As a beginner, you'll need to measure everything and follow the recipes strictly. As you gain more experience cooking, you'll be able to improvise.

If you attempt any of the recipes you find here or elsewhere, my suggestion is to follow them to the letter. If you're unsure about making a substitution, post the recipe here for us to look at and give advice.

And finally, if something doesn't turn out exactly like the picture in the book or website, don't be discouraged. Practice makes perfect with cooking. So keep practicing.

The easiest foods a newbie cook can make is eggs and raw preparations like salad.

Good luck to you. Post any questions or problems you might have here.

      Hi White Leg

      Welcome to ha

I'm on Induction phases too and just etting into this new way of eating and cooking.

My advice to you is to experiment and be brave! Check out all the recipes here and PM the authors if you need more details.

I've made a couple of really simple dishes recently including spicy chicken, home-made beef burgers and baked trout.

Feel free to PM me anytime if you want some ideas or advice.
