  • Low Carb products no where to be found..

When I first started Atkins a few years ago there were TONS of products out there. Yogurt, Ice Cream, Milk, etc... Now I am back and there is nothing out there. This really stinks. Also, I was looking at menu's for a restaurant to go to for Mother's Day and no one has low carb menu's anymore. I really wanted to splurged with a low carb ice cream or cheesecake. Any suggestions??

Well breakfast foods are good anytime a day and most restaurants serve breakfast. Or go somewhere that serves a nice steak and just make sure they don't put any sauce on it.

This website which is legite has recipes for Atkins friendly food, it has recipes for Ice cream AND cheesecake!!! http://genaw.com/lowcarb/index.html

I've made the Kool-Aid Sherbet and it's pretty good. I've had a few of the recipes and they're pretty good. Hope that helps.

Thanks Irishmom.. I am having some major sweet cravings tonight. I don't want to cheat but I am so tempted. AHH! I think I might try Mongolian BBQ for Mothers Day

On my second day of Induction I had horrbile sugar cravings and I tried the Mock Danish (from that website) and it kicked my cravings gone! It was just a little bit of splenda in the danish that was able to curb all my sugar cravings. I haven't had a craving since.

Re: Low Carb products no where to be found..

It's a really good idea to try to not depend on low carb products and menus, but to instead try to make regular food choices that are legal on this WOE.

The only restaurants i've really found are a huge problem are Chinese, Thai, south Asian and Mexican. Any other restaurant, I usually get chicken and veggies, or meat and veggies (no meat's with sauces like bbq etc onthem) ask them to hold the starchy side like potato, and get double veggies, I've yet to have a restaurant not do this. they're more than happy too. Many restaurants also have their nutritional info posted on their websites so you can make your choice before you go. One restaurant in the US, if you have one near you, i love is Cracker Barrell, they have a great low carb menu.

As for yogurt etc, once you get to the dairy rung, you can have 1/2 cup of full fat regular yogurt and greek yogurt. There are recipes for home made ice cream and deserts. try to find natural substitutions for the low carb products, it will make your life alot easier.

            Great advice, Jen!

Let me tell you what I observe, on this board and many others out there, AND in my own personal experiences.

The people who eat low carb convenience products on a regular basis, generally, do not make it to goal. The people who have made it to goal, and maintain their goal weight (which is more important than just making the goal) eat fresh, natural foods that can be found ANYWHERE, ANYTIME as opposed to convenience foods.

Keep in mind that low-carb junk food is still junk food.

Thanks to everyone who has responded. I am a horrible cook but decided today is the day to give it another try. I also figured out why the "sweet" attack is happening. TOM is right around the corner..My scale told me also. (up a few pounds today ) Thanks again

Mimom...I had cravings due to TOM as well. I just had to remind myself that it would pass and it did. In the meantime I had a cup of coffee and it helped me out.

I found this really good salad dressing that is made with splenda. I have been eating a salad when I crave sweets.
