  • Work Food!

    Hi,

My problem is that i am finding it hard to prepare meals for work. I work part time Mon - Thurs so these days are easier, but on Fridays i can work from 9 till around 8. I need something i can eat at my desk as i dont get any official breaks and there is no kitchen.

    Anyone have any ideas?

I lost a lot of weight while i was out of work but when i got this job i found it hard to stick to it, so i really want to get back on the right track.

Sorry if this post has been done before, but i have tried looking and cant find anything

    Thank you :joy

I work full-time, but two of my days are loonnng ones (8:15am to 7:00pm), and I'm usually busy the whole time. I take lunch and snacks to work everyday.

My secret is that I prepare it all on Sundays. I make a bikergoddess pizza (do a search for info on it), along with a crustless quiche and some flax bread. Once cool, I cut everything into serving-size portions and put it in either containers or ziploc bags, then stick them in the freezer. I cut up a block of cheese into portion slices, then put them into snack-size ziploc bags. I boil a lot of eggs, then take the shells off and put them in ziploc bags. I get 5 containers and put together five spinach salads (one for each day of the workweek), and I cut up my snack veggies and put them into serving-size ziploc bags. Essentially, everything I'll want to eat at work for the coming week I prepare and package on Sundays. I have a large insulated lunch bag, and I have blue-ice blocks in the freezer. Each morning, before I make breakfast, I put my food for the workday in the bag, add a fork and a blue-ice block, and I'm ready to go. On days I work longer, I throw in more food. Since I've already individually packaged everything, it just takes a few seconds. At work I keep paper plates and napkins in my drawer. Some of the food (bikergoddess pizza & quiches) require just a quick heating in the microwave, then I'm good to go.

Could something similar work for you?? Preparation is one of the essential parts of this WOE. :yes

I cook enough for dinner so I have leftovers for lunch the following day. For example, tonight, I'm grilling some chicken breasts for dinner. I grill extra for tomorrow's lunch (probably sliced chicken breast with a tossed green salad).

You can keep your food cool in an insulated lunch bag if you have no refrigerator at your work place. If you bring salads, get a small plastic container (and empty spice container will work well) put your salad dressing in it and freezer the dressing over night---In the morning put the frozen dressing container in the container with your salad. By lunch time, the dressing will be defrosted and the salad will still be cool.

You can buy those tuna in the foil packets and individual mayonnaise packets. Bring that for a tuna salad you can mix at lunch time.

              I tell you mine:

300 grs minced beef meat (it may be 150 pork/150 beef)
              1 can pâté (or foie)
              50 grs minced bacon
              30 grs grated parmesan.
              2 beaten eggs
              fresh parsley
              1/2 clove garlic
              1 tsp. mustard
              salt&pepper
              10 caspers

I mix all the ingredients (except the minced meat) in the machine.
Then I mix it with the minced meat in a large bowl (with a fork or the hands)
Make a roll and wrap it (film paper) and put it in the microwave.
              10 minutes max. heat.
Remove the paper and in grill option, cook another 5 minutes.
Cut in slices when it´s cold.
              I hope you like it.

I like to do the same sa JoAnne. I have an insulated bag I carry and in it I put an ice pack and my lunch and snacks. I try to make things on the weekend for my worktime eats. Here's a list of things I typically make or take:

                    deviled eggs
                    boiled eggs
                    tuna salad
                    egg salad
                    sausage
leftover steak or chicken cut in cubes
                    cheese
                    salad
                    crustless quiche

I have a salad container that I got at Bed, Bath, and Beyond that I love. It carries my salad and dressing, see: http://www.containerstore.com/browse...p;PRODID=69696

JoAnne hit it right on the head. :ThumbsUp

Preparation is absolutely key. The days I am not cheat free are the days that I haven't prepared work meals ahead of time (I typically eat my breakfast at work, too). I do the Sunday thing, and it's worked out brilliantly for me.

JoAnne - I liked your idea about pre-shelling the eggs. I usually just take them in their own little containers. I have been known to find a wayward egg in my tote bag. Thankfully, it's only been the day after and not longer!! :tounge

This is absolutely a fantastic post. I'm sure a large percentage of us are working folks so secret sharing is good.

I prepare in advance, either on the weekend or the night before.

I make egg muffins, cheese, ham, beaten eggs pour in a cupcake pan and bake, then I put in ziploc bags for breakfast.

Make salad fixin's so I can assemble quickly in the morning for lunch.

Cut up pepperoni and cheese blocks for snacks. The success is all in planning, planning at the grocery store, then at home.

Now PAU.....on your meatloaf recipe that is capers and not caspers...right? If it is caspers, what is that?

                        Thanks
