        Re: Jicama?

I am totally LOVING jicama! I think it has close to the texture of a very fresh, crisp apple, but it is not sweet like an apple. It does have a very mild sweetness to it, but wouldn't want you to bite into it expecting an apple! I do agree with Iamashrinky dink that there can be an essence of fresh from the garden peas sometimes. I have been eating it raw--best right out of the fridge super chilly and usually have it with some cheese to make sure I have some fat with it since it is a little higher in carbs than most veggies. I know some people that eat it with veggie dip. Just this morning I cut some up, squeezed on a little lime juice and tossed with some red onion slivers and cilantro...OMG--totally a new favorite recipe!

Let us know what you think when you try it!

Hi! I was at a bbq/cookout tonight and used jicama to scoop up the delicious guacamole--AWESOME!

Well I finally tried the Jicama today! I made something called Jicama "Apples" from Linda's site and it seriously tasted like dried apples!! YUM!!!!! Very impressed.

I'm going to have to try some other recipes now!

                  Re: Jicama?

you can also cut jicama up and fry them like french fries, goes great with a hamburger patty or even some pan fried seasoned(but not breaded) fish.

                    Re: Jicama?

I just bought southwestern jicama salad from whole foods...jicama, bell pepper, onion, canola, lemon juice, chili pepper, garlic, paprika, jalapeno pepper, salt and black pepper....

i have to be honest...i am not a fan of jicama...i will give it another shot and fry them up with oil and salt....but at this moment i do not love jicama...

it has the texture of pear with no taste....

I don't like jicama. But I love to cook chayote squash with butter and add cinnamon and splenda. To me it is much better 'mock apples' than the jicama recipe.

I love Jicama!! I used my cheese grater and made jicama shoestring fries. Sprinkled a little salt & garlic powder and wow! You can also not fry them as long and they're more like hash browns. My problem is that I can't fry up a batch quick enough! I snack on the prepared portion while more is cooking, so I never actually sit down to enjoy a plate! I'm going to experiment with other spices as well. I went through a rather large on in just a couple days. YUMMY!
