  • Splenda

    Hi all,

This is my first post, so please bare with me if it's in the wrong place or has been answered a hundred times before.

I have read in several places that Splenda is Dr. Atkins sweetener of choice, but 1 tbsp is equal to 1g net carbs. I seem to remember that Splenda was a free, limitless food once upon a time. Yes I fell off the wagon several years ago and am back.

My big question is, how to count Splenda when it's already mixed into something like iced tea or soda or pudding. Since most, if not all manufacturers don't list Splenda as carbs (Arizona Iced Tea says 0 carbs, but is sweetened with Splenda) how do you count it?

Are there any sweeteners that don't count against the carb count?

Any help would be great. Thanks!

    Re: Splenda

Splenda or Sucralose in liquid form has no carbs (supposedly), however in the powdered form, it is "bulked" with maltodextrin (that's the powder). Maltodextrin is a carbohydrate and must be counted toward your daily carb count. maltodextrin is in all the powdered sweetners, I believe.

Even if you buy the liquid sucralose online, we are still only permitted 3 servings per day, even if 0 carb.
