Good morning. I am wondering does it matter whether I eat egg beaters? I usually eat egg beaters because they have no fat in them. Now since I am on the atkins diet, I am wondering do I need to eat regular eggs since they contain fat. I have sausage links so I figured that compensated for the fat. Thanks in advance

Re: Egg Beaters vs. Eggs
Hi,
Here are the ingredients for Egg Beaters:
INGREDIENTS:
Egg whites (99%), less than 1%: Natural flavor, color (includes beta carotene), spices, salt, onion powder, vegetable gums (xanthan gum, guar gum).
Personally, I try to avoid as many chemicals and additives as possible in processed foods. I would advise you to eat what nature created and go with real eggs.

Re: Egg Beaters vs. Eggs
Eat the real eggs. All the nutrients of an egg are in the yolk (along with the fat). Egg Beaters are technically acceptable on this WOE, but the incredible, edible egg is a much better option!Eric

And real eggs taste better too

TWS, I've actually heard that they're NOT better for you. something about what they feed the hens makes for inferior eggs. free-run are better, and apparently the best ones are organic.the big atkins re-start on july 14/08...

Oh! Tell me more, please. I'm always interested in what is happening to the food I eat.Originally posted by steady as she goes View PostTWS, I've actually heard that they're NOT better for you. something about what they feed the hens makes for inferior eggs. free-run are better, and apparently the best ones are organic.
We do have a local supplier near here* but when those run out I'll buy 'Eggland's Best Omega 3'.
Thanks for the heads-up.

I agree! Eat Real Food. Besides, there's no need to get Omega-3 in your eggs. That's a marketing scam (like Oreos with zero grams transfat)! Food companies are greedy and evil. It's ridiculous.
You can get higher, better levels of natural Omega-3, 6, and 9 from tuna and salmon. Have some tuna salad or put a some tuna on a salad with chopped hard-boiled egg instead.

Re: Egg Beaters vs. Eggs
I disagree with this post as far as the egg quality is concerned. Most commercial eggs are way too high in omega-6, which would negate the positive effects of a serving of fish.Originally posted by frankenspine View Post... there's no need to get Omega-3 in your eggs. To restore the balance of omega EPAs with fish may not be all that healthy. Health agencies recommend consuming no more than 1-2 servings a week of the fish that are high on the food chain (salmon, tuna, etc). Wild salmon, in my area, costs up to $25/lb. Farmed salmon is lacking in those essential oils found in wild stocks. The regular mass-produced, production agriculture chicken egg that most Americans buy has an Omega-6 to Omega-3 fatty acid ratio of 20:1
While I agree that eating wild, grass/algae fed proteins is best, sometimes a compromise is necessary. Again, if I can't get free-range eggs, I'll buy them enriched in omega 3 to offset the high levels of O-6 found in the SAD. To ensure I'm getting my O-3 I take a refined fish oil supplement that doesn't expose me to high levels of heavy metal contamination.Wild fish may increase the your exposure to mercury and PCBs, not only in fresh-water fish but also in ocean fish. However, farmed fish may be low in omega 3 and high in omega 6 if they were fed grain products instead of marine products.
Any time grain, or grain-fed animals, are added to a diet, the overall health declines. Grain-fed eggs are no exception.

Re: Egg Beaters vs. Eggs
I gotta tell ya, I used to use Egg Beaters all the time - I seem to make more Quiches now than a real man has a right too - but the moment I used real eggs, I could taste the difference!! I will not go back to Egg Beaters.
Just my 2 cents.Kagi
