  • Is Splenda OK?

I'm sure this has been talked before

So will Splenda slow my weight loss down
I use it alot but maybe I'm wrong

New chemical sweeteners (like Splenda) and the sweetener blends (aspartame, sucralose and acesulfame K blended together in one product) may be causing users to show signs of weight gain, disruption of sleep patterns, sexual dysfunction, increases in cancer, MS, Lupus, diabetes, and a list of epidemic degenerative diseases. The corporations continue to stand tough in their denial of any connection to chemical sweetener additives.
    The Chlorine In Splenda

Chlorine is commonly found in nature, but almost always in combination with other building block elements. Chlorine's structure makes it very reactive and because it is so reactive, it is very useful to chemists, engineers and others involved in making things humans use every day.
The inventors of Splenda admit around fifteen percent (15%) of sucralose is absorbed by the body, but they cannot guarantee us (out of this fifteen percent) what amount of chlorine stays in the body and what percent flushes out.

    Re: Is Splenda OK?

according to the 2002 edition of the book, splenda is okay and preferred however you are only allowed 3 packets per day [or the equivelant of that] and that would include soft drinks, jello, desserts and so on made with splenda.

well, chlorine is really bad for your thyroid gland.

I use xylitol and stevia, and have ordered erythritol (which is hopefully good too!). to me, they taste much, much better, and aren't scary. LOL

        Re: Is Splenda OK?

Liquid Splenda is just sucralose and water.

But what I just discovered (shoulda known this before but hadn't looked it up yet) is that powdered Splenda such as in the packets or "Splenda for Baking" is a tiny bit of sucralose mixed with Dextrose and Maltodextrin for the fillers which are both sugars!!!!!

Now I think I fully understand why Dr. Atkins limits Splenda to 3 packets per day. I'm thinking it's not because of that being 3 carbs, but rather because consuming more than that can trigger a sugar-spike.

Two weeks ago, I switched from Nutrasweet to powdered Splenda, and my weight loss went from great (9 pounds that week) to nearly nada (1 pound the week I switched to Splenda). And yes, I was using more than 3 packets per day because I thought it would affect me just like Nutrasweet and I know I can eat more Nutrasweet without any stall on my weight loss.

So I'm going straight back to Nutrasweet (well, I buy cheapie store-brand aspertame). I'm really really angry over the Splenda weight-loss stall!!!!!!!!!!!

aspartame is even WORSE for you!

there's a link on here about how bad it is for you, and the shadiness in how it came to be so common that I think was posted by either sherri or studyinscarlet. I did a search for xylitol, and the thread with the link came up. it's really scary stuff. I'd pick slower weight loss over neurological damage any day.

splenda actually started giving me numb extremities when I did atkins the first time and ate a lot of the stuff. now I have it only a couple of times per week and stick to natural sweetners.

              Hello Amber,
Thanks Steady! Here's my post I believe Steady is refering to- #4 , or at least it will lead you to posts i've made about both aspartame and splenda. It's been my experience and knowlege that the chemicle based sweetners are harmful to our health.
Of course it's a personal choice of what we consume and what we believe is healthy for us. Thank God for choice.
Wishing you the best of health and lite Amber.
              Sincerely, Sherri

                Re: Is Splenda OK?

I've noticed a distinct lack of weight loss every day that I have consumed aspertame, but from reading posts on this forum, I have really realized that different sweeteners affect people different ways. If I were you (and I've done this myself) I'd elminate it from your diet for a few days and see what happens. I've read that liquid splenda doesnt cause stalls because it is truly calorie and carb free, so I just ordered some. I'm hoping that it won't cause me to stop losing, because when you're drinking 140 oz. of water ( I try to keep most of it water, but sometimes it gets so boring!) kool-aid helps you meet your water goal. Watch out for sugar free gum, jell-o, and other things that contain hidden aspertame that you dont even think about. Your safest bet would be to avoid fake sugar completely, but we all know that isn't always realistic.

I've also noticed that I lose a lot less weight if I dont drink a ton of water. I'm by no means an expert, I've just been making notes of cause and effect of the things I've been consuming.
