  • ? About Broccoli

On the package of frozen broccoli it states there are 4g carbs in one cup. On FitDay it states there are 13g carbs in one cup! Which should I believe?

Thanks The frozen I use only contains broccoli though. Nothing hidden. I'm so confused as to why the numbers are SO different.

        Kristen-

Funny you asked that because I just put broccoli into fitday myself and had the same result...i changed the whole option to florets and it did reduce the carbs but was still much higher than the 4grams which the bag states. I'm sure the label of what you're actually eating is correct. Although fitday has SEVERAL things in it's "memory" not every packaging can be in there. But if you're worried, it's always safer to go with the higher number. But I'd double check fitday and switch it up to florets (unless of course the frozen broc you bought was whole)

        Good Luck!

Something must be wrong on Fitday, because it also says that Broccoli has 45 calories from fat, I'm not aware of brocolli having fat

I'd suggest you create a custom food using the nutrition label on your bag of frozen broccoli.

Frozen veges are actually better for you than fresh. Frozen veges are flash frozen right after they are picked, sealing in all the nutrients. Fresh veges have been shipped around in a truck and sat at the store for a while which has lowered their nutrient value.

Measure your frozen veges while they are still frozen and they are the same amount of carbs as if you measured fresh veges.

WOW, this is VERY good to know! I thought exactly the opposite!!! I do know that fitday sometimes assumes you are cooking the broccoli in butter and all kinds of stuff and that can account for some of the variances in totals...I usually input the broccoli as raw rather than "cooked or boiled" and then if I add butter or cheese, I put it in separately.

But if you are eating it frozen, just create a custom food and input all the label info from your package and it's your "own" broccoli. That should work as far as I know and you measure accurately.

Calorieking.com is a great place to double check carb counts, i've found there food database to be quite accurate

CalorieKing - Calorie Counter - Calories in Vegetables, Fresh: Broccoli, raw, edible portion

Interesting though, when i put in broccolli i get (for broccolli, raw)

Even the cooked from frozen broccolli shows as only 4g's of carbs. I"m not sure what you guys are seeing but perhaps it's something that someone has added in themselves that includes cheese sauce or something?
