  • Can you deep fry with parmesan cheese?

I currently use the grated parmesan cheese that comes in the jar instead of breadcrumbs/pork rinds to make parmesan wings, crab cakes, etc.

My question is, can i deep fry? Thinking about trying to make mozzarella sticks with the parmesan as breading...and i would love to fry some catfish too.

Yes, you can. I found a recipe in another thread for chicken wings using grated parmesan as a coating. That recipe called for the wings to be baked, which I did. But then I used a variant of the recipe (dipping them first into egg rather than melted butter as the recipe called for) for deep-fried thighs. Very good!

Hmm, I hadn't thought about mozarella sticks. I might have to try that. Not sure how best to get the cheese to cling to the cheese, so to speak. For that I might use the melted butter -- as long as it's not too hot, of course.

There's a cheese....I know it as mexican frying cheese....that doesn't even need a coating. It softens, but doesn't get gooey. Just fry it. I know it has several different names depending on what country makes it, but I'm sure you can find the official name googling mexican frying cheese. Goes great with marinara sauce
