  • Cinnamon Tea: Naturally SWEET!

I tried this after a friend of mine asked me to try it. It's interesting because the tea is naturally sweet! You get a burst of sweetness and a nice, but not over-powering cinnamon flavor. It's nice hot or cold.

An added benefit is that cinnamon is said to control blood sugar levels---which is good for Atkineers because it will help keep your blood sugar stable and prevent any things like cravings.

    Cinnamon Tea

    2 cups water
Two 2-3 inch long cinnamon sticks, broken in half

Put the water and the sticks into a pot. Bring to a boil. Boil for about a minute. Then reduce the heat, cover the pot and simmer over low heat for about 15-20 minutes.

    Re: Cinnamon Tea: Naturally SWEET!

I recently discovered the simplicity and deliciousness of cinnamon tea too. My 2 year old loves to drink it as well. If you don't have cinnamon sticks, a dash of ground cinnamon goes a long way in hot water as well.

        Do try it!

I cooked a pot of it a few days ago, then went outside to shovel the snow. When I entered my house...BOOM!....I was met by the most delicious, clean cinnamon aroma!

It warmed me up nicely too.

I'll post another tea recipe soon.

Hmm.. i was scared it would be something really complicated. I must make some of this instead of my usual jasmine green tea!

              Re: Cinnamon Tea: Naturally SWEET!

Believe me, I was skeptical at first too. But I was completely surprized with it. I anticipated that the cinnamon flavor would be really strong and overpowering, but it was delicate and sweet. The sweet taste really shocked me.

                      Re: Cinnamon Tea: Naturally SWEET!

I tried this today--it's amazingly sweet! Since I never put sweetener in beverages, it's almost too sweet for me. It is really tasty.

                        Re: Cinnamon Tea: Naturally SWEET!

                        Just a note.....

Don't add cream to the tea...the cream kills the sweetness and some of the taste of the cinnamon tea, so it becomes a very boring and almost not worth drinking beverage.

I'm guessing that the fat coats your tastebuds preventing them from registering that sweet taste and the cinnamon flavor.

                          Re: Cinnamon Tea: Naturally SWEET!

I have a question. Does drinking this tea make anyone else hungry? Every time I drink it between meals I get hungry and have to have a snack when I wouldn't usually.

Even worse, I try not to eat after dinner and usually don't have a problem. I also like to have chamomile tea before bedtime to help me sleep. Since chamomile is mildly sweet, I decided to mix the two. The two times I drank this cinnamon tea made with chamomile, I was gnawing stomach hungry within an hour. So much so that I had to get up out of bed and get something to eat so I could go to sleep!

I was wondering if the insulin controlling properties of the cinnamon was dropping my blood sugar so low that I am craving food to get it back up. Any opinions?

Sorry, Sunny, really don't know about that.

Just wanted to say this is pretty good stuff. I buy the celestial seasonings chai, but won't let my granddaughter have it because of the caffeine. I make extra of this so she can have it, and she is very happy!

That's interesting Sunny. I drink the tea (hot or cold) after meals and it doesn't give me cravings. In fact, it completely killed my appetite one day when I drank a cup about 30 minutes before my meal. Maybe it is dropping your blood sugar lower. Could the chamomile be causing an additive effect????
