  • Which do you think is the most health oil

Queen of the polls here. I have read a million articles on oils and let me tell you there are about that many both pro and con. So which do you think is the healthiest oil.
I will tell you the answer in one week, if I remember. If I don't remind me.

Despite my vote, it could actually be ghee or coconut oil (which surprises most, as I remember watching labels to eliminate it from my diet way back)

AphexPhode, There wasn't enough room to include all the choices so I used oils that are generally used for cooking. There are a ton of oils out there, The Hamptons Diet calls for Macadema oil.

Actually Nurselady, I believe that Naja cooks will tallow.

2big, okay we can assume that all the oils are either cold, expellar or pure pressed, but I don't have a clue what that means.

it means that the seed or nut or fruit from which the oil is going to be made from was placed in a press and only pressure was applied to get the oil out. once this pressing had gotten all the oil that can be gotten the oil making companies have learned they can heat the remaining mush and more oil will come out under pressure and they can even add chemicals and get even more oil out bnut in this heat and chemical addatives process some of the oil molecules shape, lenght and properties are altered and not for the best for nutrion and taste.

So cold pressed means just not heated, when they press out the oil.

I can see where that would make the oil better/healthier.

Canola oil, I understand, made from rape seed contains a toxic substance called ercic acid or something like that. They have bred most of it out of the plant, but what remains they have to express from the seed and doing this changes the oil to a trans fat which we know isn't healthy, so I didn't include Canola on the list at all.

A little info for you about ERUCIC ACID and Canola oil for human consumption and it should be on the list.

Erucic acid is a naturally occuring compound found in some oils derived from plants, mostly in some varieties of mustard seed oil and rapeseed oil. there have been no confirmed cases of erucic acid toxicity in humans, however high levels of erucic acid have been linked to the formation of fatty deposits in heart muscle in animals.

Canola oil comes from pressing a hybrid plant developed in Canada during the late 1960s - 1970s using traditional pedigree hybrid propagation techniques (not genetically modified) involving black mustard, leaf mustard, and turnip rapeseed. The original rapeseed plant was high in erucic acid. Canola oil contains less than 1 percent erucic acid. Actually, another name for canola oil is LEAR (Low Erucic Acid Rapeseed) oil.

There are some internet articles that are false and spread frighteningly wrong info about canola oil treading on the rapeseed info as applicable to canola

wow...I am surprised considering most of what she makes sounds so good...I am not eating tallow intentionally ever ...but then I do not intentionally eat any extra animal fat...the idea that tallow is good will never go into my brain so every who likes it ..you go for it!!!! I will stick with my love of olive oil and butter!!! and coconut milk with its extra fat but I do not do coconut oil on its own...my cholesterol is down when I use oils it goes up with saturated fats...go figure I do not care what studies show my body knows a good thing when it sees it..hormones are stored in fat and unless you can afford hormone free meat/fat with every meal I am not willing to add extra hormones to my diet...Olive oil is very good for you tastes wonderful and is easy to obtain and use ......and I am not budging on this one!!! enjoy my portions of tallow, lard, shmaltz whatever .... at least coconut oil is hormone free if you are going to dump solid fats in your body that is the safer choice IMHO!!!! anyone can write anything ...but I have to go by what my body says ...in a couple of months I will prove again going back to less saturated (for me butter cheese ect) and more oils I bet you money my numbers are good again!!!

Folks have stopped posting so Ill tell you the answer. TADA.....Coconut oil is the healthies according to Dr Diane Schwarzbein who wrote the Schwarzbein Principle.
She saids that Saturated fats are the most healthy and they include, butter, tallow, chicken fat and Coconut oil (tropicals are included like Palm and palm kernal) . Monounsatuarted fats come in next, and they include olive oils, but should be cold pressed, like 2big said. Polyunsatfats come in third where Ghee is listed. According to her, ghee is not a healthy fat.
One other interesting thing about oil is that it doesn't last forever, and go rancid quickly, so buy small bottles instead of large jugs, spend a little money on cold or expeller pressed oils and always give the oil a little sniff. You can tell right away if its rancid.
