Does anyone notice a fishy smell when baking with flax seeds? I noticed my flax bread smells fishy and so do my flax crackers while I'm backing them. Seem's to fill my apartment with a fishy smell.

    Occasionally, I do.

Make sure that you are storing your flax properly. They have a high fat content and can become rancid quickly.

the smell of flax seeds is what I think is the worst part...I agree with Megs they perish easily so if they smell fishy I would chuck them...sounds racid to me

I have noticed it when buying the pre-groundmeal at the grocery store.

Recently, I switched over to buying only whole organic flax seeds from a local co-op, and those tend to turn out products much nicer.

I was buying Bob's Red Mill ground flax seed and storing it in an airtight container in the freezer. I'll switch to the stuff from Whole Foods and grind it myself.
