  • Whats for dinner? Lamb

I am so excited. My hubby is going to a pot luck which I gracefully bowed out of and I am going to make myself a lamb chop cause I love lamb and he hates it. (Well, not hate but its certainly not his favorite.)

Is this a lamb thread or a what's for dinner thread?

I'm having leftovers. A spicy pot roast. My mom just dumped in whatever spices she likes and to my surprise and delight she added in plenty of crushed red pepper. Too hot for her, perfect for me. Oh, and I pour the juices over my broccoli.

I can't eat veal.. it makes me sad. I don't eat much lamb either.. the only time I've ever eaten lamb is when I've had gyros and even then it's up for debate if it's really lamb they use.

The people at work used to be amazed when the topic of different foods came up because I've never eaten seafood, veal, duck, squirell, possum, rabbit, etc. I'm just weird like that.

              *edited to add..*
Oh yeah for dinner I'm having enchilada filling and sauce. YUM!!!

I can´t eat rabbit as I had one as a pet when I was a kid.

And I usually eat: chicken, turkey, duck, veal, lamb, pork, fish and seafood. And I enjoy them all!

I don't often eat lamb, but I did make myself a lamb stew on Good Friday.
It has been quite a number of years since I had rabbit.
                    I don't eat veal - too cruel

We had a moose roast the night before last. My hubby's family gave it to him when he visited during Easter.

Hmm, what does moose taste like? Gamey?

We do "Pig Pickins" all the time.

                        What are Pig Pikins?

I guess moose tastes "gamey" I'm not quite sure how to describe it. It has a full-bodied taste, unlike beef, if that makes any sense. It does not have a lot of fat, either (at least the piece we had).

I remember venison (deer) when I was young. You had to eat it while it was warm, because the colder it got, the fat got "chaulkey" (sort of like lamb does, if I remember correctly) - at least when it's a roast.

I'm not a very good describer of the taste of things because I go mainly by smells and mouth feel. The nerves controlling the flavours were damaged in a car accident, so I only have to rely on other senses to enjoy my food.

Ah, Pig Pickin's are when you take a whole pig and cut it down the long way thru the stomach to the backbone so it will lay flat on a grill. You have to have spcial "pit" big enough to put a whole pig on, anyway you start cooking it at about 5:00 a.m. and it takes all day til about 4 or 5 but around 2-3 when they flip it, the ribs are ready to eat, so everyone "picks' at it to get the ribs and eat them! Then when the rest of the pig is ready depending on the chef's preference they either let you pick pieces off of it or they chop it up southern BBQ style! Its an all day party, my dad usually throws 4 or 5 of them a year!

Its a lot of fun, next time I'll have pictures on a disc so I can post them!

Yeah.. I guess it DOES make me weird.. or at least according to the people I used to work with. They all have eaten those critters at some point!

I've never had seafood.. supposedly I'm allergic to some of it (according to mom anyway) and I haven't been brave enough to try any of it.. besides when I see fish being served I think about my goldfish and it makes me sad. I can't stand the smell of it either.. yuck!

LOL, I have goldfish and it doesn't bother me for some reason. Of course in my other aquarium I have one sole minnow! I resuced him from John's bait bucket last year when we went fishing! I can't believe he's still alive! He's not even a good sardine size right now so I don't think we'll ever eat him LOL
