  • would almond meal work instead?...

    i want to make some crabcakes - instead of using breadcrumbs, what can I use? Would almond meal work? flax seeds?...what would work?

    I use ground flax in salmon patties with great success. It doesn't alter the flavor, and it works fine as the 'filler.'

      You don't need bread crumbs, cracker crumbs, etc. for crabcakes.

      I'm from the Chesapeake Bay area and the best crabcakes have the least "filler" (including vegetable fillers). The filler is there to squeeze more crab cakes out of a portion of crab and to hide any off flavors the crab might have. In fact the BEST crab cake is from a restaurant called Jerry's Seafood: it's 16 ounces of lump crab meat---no filler!
