  • What's your favorite way to cook cabbage?

I just bought a nice head of cabbage. What should I do with it? Cabbage is one of those veges that I haven't really prepared a lot in life... yet. LOL I'm trying all kinds of new things thanks to Atkins.

I love cabbage in all forms, but the best, is brown up some bacon, i use turkey bacon and a little oil, fry it. You can add cheese to it, or not, its good either way, but keep your temp up so it doesn't get watery.

yes, it is way better 'fried' or saute'd than boiled! It gets slightly sweet and lovely! I use grapeseed oil or sesame oil.

Coleslaw: slice into fine shreds, add alittle bit of sliced onion, then mix with combo of mayo, dry mustard (like Colman's English mustard), lemon juice, salt and pepper, celery seed. OR if you don't like a creamy dressing, toss the cabbage with olive oil, lemon juice, salt pepper and fresh chopped herbs like cilantro or parsley.

Sauteed in a bit of bacon fat.
Quartered & then wrapped in tin foil with some butter, salt & pepper added. Bake @ 350* for an hour +15".

Love it fried! First cook your bacon with some onions. Then when the bacon has rendered all of it's lovely fat add some sliced cabbage and cook it till it's to your liking. Add a little salt and pepper. Geez, I'm making myself hungry...lol

Another vote here for the fried cabbage with bacon & onions. Here's a recipe from Linda's Low Carb to give you an idea. I make mine like that only I cover the cabbage/onion mixture and cook until it's really soft, then uncover and cook some more until it's browned.

I'm having that tomorrow with some homemade Polish sausage patties. It will be sort of like kielbasa & kapusta Atkins style...one of Mr. Ski's favorites.

I've also made the above recipe but mixed in some sour cream and caraway seeds (for those on the seed/nut rung) after it was all cooked. That's yummy too.
