Has anyone tried silicone bakeware? If so what do you think of it? Does it brown food as well as metal?

I was eyeballing ones like this:

Well...... they are more expensive than the normal ones. You have to be careful before buying them ..... as sometimes they says "silicone" and it´s another material.

Theyare great because you can use them in the microwave and in the oven. The first time you use them must "paint" them with butter. The rest of time is not necessary and the cakes does not stick!

I have 2 different Muffins-bakeware and I´m happy with them. I bake bread and all cakes ... not problem at all! but you have to take the cakes out when they are cold.

      Hope to help.

          Right.
The cake must be cold before removing.
          Bread can be warm removed.

My experience has been that the baked stuff has to be cold and it works better. I have made both flax-based muffins (stick cold, stick hot, leave little flax bits everywhere) and Atkins muffins (orange cranberry) and find that stuff sticks -- not really enough to damage the muffin, but it's a pain to wash! I have the mini muffin size (24 mini muffins) and it takes forever to get clean. I have resorted to popping all 24 of the cups wrong side out and putting it in the dishwasher -- and that after trying to wash the residue off!

If I am doing something wrong here, please advise! I have been quite disappointed in the clean up and the sticking! My tin ones are much easier to clean!

Linda, it your bakeware is original silicone you should´ve used butter the first time you used it. Next times it´s not necessary.

But if you still have problems maybe it´s not silicone.

If you tell me they are made of silicon then use some butter next time.
When the bakeware is cold, put it all nigh in some water with soup.

Next morning clean it with a soft sponge.

Possibly it depends on what you bake.
Flax muffins seems to have sufficient oil content that it becomes unnecessary to butter/oil first (or else I'm just stunned). Mine didn't come with instructions, that I can remember.

I have the mini muffin pans.

I have a bigger muffin pan, too, but haven't used it.

It's better if you put it on a hard surface (cookie sheet, for instance), to aid in taking it back out of the oven. I tried it without, and it sort of smelled funny, too. I had a mixture in the oven - silicone and regular pans.

I usually take the muffins out shortly after they come out of the oven. I use a plastic knife, mostly. Don't know why - just a choice I decided to make. Guess it's from working with the non-stick surfaces, and I don't want to scratch them.

Thanks for the tip! Mine is silicone - its the KitchenAid brand I think. But soak them overnight and wash in the morning? Blech! Especially when my aluminum ones don't stick and can be washed easily. I am kind of bummed -- but maybe I'll butter it and give it one more shot! I hate to admit defeat, especially with new kitchen gadgets!

Our supermarket had a sale on this stuff a while ago. We bought three cup cake pans (6 cupcakes to a pan), 2 mini cupcake pans (12 min cupcakes to a pan), 3 loaf pan, 2 pie pans, 1 cake pan and two silicone spatulas.

Ok.. I can't say enough good things about these! We used them religiously until we packed them a month ago. They work wonderful and they aren't kidding when they say stuff comes out easy! We let things cool for a few minutes and they still come out fine even when they are still very warm. We made pecan pie bites in the mini cupcake pan and took them out after they had cooled only 8 minutes. These pans clean up very easy too! I like how simple it is to get them clean compared to having to soak pans that I had baked cupcakes in and accidentally got some stuff burned on it.. these clean up very well! They are easy to store too.

I baked goodies for a bake sale at work in them and everyone who saw them fell in love and went out and got some.
Female/32/Still too big, but getting smaller..

                    Instant insanity!

Origam, since you are so pleased with yours, do you happen to know what brand they are?

They are Futura Bakeware. All their stuff is blue.

Found this site with their stuff... looks like I need to do more shopping.
Careful when you use them though, the items that don't come with racks to hold them need some support under them. I use just a regular cookie sheet to give them support on the bottom.
