I was looking through a very good herb/spice purveyor's catalog and spotted a spice mix. It was "certified organic" and cost about $10 more than its non-"certified organic" counterpart.
So, I'm expecting some really high quality product, free of preservatives and other nasty stuff.
Well, the first ingredient was corn syrup solids. But it wasn't any old corn syrup solids, it was "certified organic" corn syrup solids. Another "Certified organic" product contained "certified organic" fructose syrup!
Lesson: don't let the "certified organic" label fool you into thinking the product is free from nasty ingredients.
