For those who do not know, due to a poor pumpkin growing season this year (2009), they won't be canning anymore pumpkin during the holiday season (ie: right now). So if you are a pumpkin fan, stock up your canned pumpkin now because it might be in short supply until next year.

From what I understand, the pumpkin crop was affected by the excessive rain we've been getting. So if the fall crop was damaged, then don't expect to see any canned pumpkin until next year.

And stock up.

I heard about this too. My local BJs (warehouse club) has pallets of it so I bought 2 cases of Libby's big cans. It was a good price too. The grocery stores have lots of cans on the shelves also. Good idea to stock up though. I use pumpkin a lot now so running out would be a sad thing indeed.

I didn't go to the Super Walmart today, which is where I shop more often because it is so close, but I went to my local neighborhood store. I checked out the pumpkin shelf in the bakery aisle and it was wiped out clean!!!

Not sure if it is due to the "scare" on the news or just that it is the Saturday before Thanksgiving.

MUP stand for "Mitzi's Ultimate Pumpkin", the name someone on the board gave to a pumpkin dish Mitzi created. Many of us like it as an egg-less breakfast. If you search for MUP in the recipe requests forum, you should find it. I'd post it...but I think I may have made changes to mine, so it wouldn't really be a MUP

I was at Walmart yesterday (I'm updating my guest bathroom, so I was looking around for stuff.) They were fully stocked with the small cans and large cans.

I'm not fond of sweet pumpkin dishes (like pumpkin pie, etc.) but I do like savory pumpkin dishes like pumpkin soup and faux mashed sweet potatoes. So I purchased a few cans.
