  • FitDay vs CalorieKing: Issues with Lamb

We're having lamb sausages for dinner. They are 100% lamb, hand-made by my butcher with no filler, seasoned with spices.

I am a dedicated FitDay user but FitDay does not appear to believe that sausages can be made from lamb. I entered 225g of raw ground lamb and got the following:

    634 calories, 52.7g fat, 37.3g protein, 0 carbs

I then checked to see if CalorieKing had sausages, and they do not but they suggested lamb kafta - ground lamb sausage on a skewer. I entered 225g and got the following values:

    445 calories, 26.2g fat, 41.9g protein, 10.5 carbs

Does anyone have an insight as to this difference or any suggestions on how I might enter this? Thanks!

Enter your lamb sausage as a custom food on fitday.com.

Lamb kafta has either rice or bread added to it, which explains the carb count.

I will totally enter it as a custom food, I just was checking which values to enter Should I just use the default FitDay ones for raw ground lamb?

you could use the default values for ground lamb, but be aware that the spices will add carbs. How many carbs? I don't know......

            Hi
kafta is ground lamb with parsley AND onion AND garlic, some people add a little tomatoe as well (its a Lebanese recipe)..but there is not bread or rice.
its mixed and ground together and then eaten eaither raw (only if the meat is halal and without blood)...or kabob style over a bbq
unless parsel and onions have that much carbs...maybe the carb counter for that recipe is wrong?

It seems to be the differing amount of fat and possible the cut assumed to be in the meat. If you had a piece of lamb ground especially for you, you could just use figures for that cut. Since you are using weights it won't make any difference whether the entry is for ground or not.
