  • Vegetable crisps

    Hi all

I have been looking for an alternative for salted crisps and have seen loads of recipes for oven baked thin sliced vegetables, eg beetroot, parsnip, carrot etc drizzled in oil and cooked for 30 mins.

Has anyone tried these? Are they permitted on OWL 1?

    Re: Vegetable crisps

My husband loves them, BUT root veggies are way up the OWL list, not on OWL 1.

Have you tried cheese crisps? They are really good. I fry up green beans in oil and garlic but they really don't get crisp.

I so not store them in any container, they will not stay crisp. Also you can modify the amount of circles you make, and how you cut them.

        Re: Vegetable crisps

Even salted crisps are OK on OWL (OWL 9) but they are carby so we are talking very small amounts and it is one of those things where you have to ask yourself can I actually stop at a few even before you stick your hand in the bag.
I also like the cheddar cheese chips for when that kind of craving hit or maybe pork rinds.

You can make chips from thinly sliced eggplant, brushed with oil and baked on parchment paper. The slices should be paper thin if you want them crisp.

            Re: Vegetable crisps

Are "Salted Crisps" another name for the American "Potato Chip".

            Is that a European name?

I feel silly sitting here trying to figure out what that is.

              Yes.

And in England, crisps can be in many tastes ... including meat flavored crisps.

Looked at the date of mine and its 1992. I know all the basics just need brushing up a bit, I am already taking on salads and veg etc and still in the pink on stick. I'll try the eggplant ones (we call them aubergines!). Have to get my head round this language difference!!

That's mostly a reprint of the 1972 book ... so you're a bit out of date with how to "do" Atkins.

You really should get a copy of the 2002 book. There's substantial enough differences to make it worth the investment.
