Hmm, is it very oily? Hemp seeds supposedly contain quite a large amount of oil, and supposedly the original Diesel engines were designed to run on hemp seed oil (hemp is extremely easy to cultivate and the plants are very productive, could've been a major cheap source of fuel had the govt. not had major issues with huge fields of hemp everywhere).
Pau -
Hemp Seeds are the seeds of the marijuana plant, but are not psychoactive (i.e. contain no THC, so they won't make you high).

WHAT? I WON'T GET HIGH?..... kidding :geek
Actually Pau they use hemp for quite a few things. The company that makes this flour makes everything from salad dressing to lip balm and massage oil!
you knowNullo, it's doesn't seem very oily, but i'm gonna try making my morning microwave bun with it. I may try it in an oven recipe this afternoon if i have time. I might have to try mixing it with a few things (wheat bran, wheat gluten) depending on the taste and texture. It was really cheap, the bag was only $2.99 cdn. And according to the site hemp has the perfect 3:1 ratio of omega 3's and 6's. Here's a link to the site if anyone interested. http://www.hempola.com/

I'll let you guys know my initial taste test results..
OK Jenn you got me curious so I did a quick search! First site said to use it when making beer. Next one said to feed it to your animals such as your chickens or fish! :yikes

They sell hemp beer in our beerstores here! I've never tried it though.
OK so I made my flax bun and I'm thinking the advice to feed it too pets may not be a bad one! LOL. I can't find my camera, I'll look around for it cause you guys have to see a picture of the colour of this. It's GREEN when mixed with liquid. :yikes
I used half wheat bran and half hemp flour, one egg and 1/2 tsp of baking powder and some vital wheat gluten (normally i'd do this same thing with flax not hemp) once i got past the weird colour, I tried toasting it. It was very very dry. And seemed to feel like it had 'twigs' in it..though i couldn't see that when i looked at the flour. seemed kind of gritty and flavour was sort of 'earthy'.
so i'm not sure yet what my take is on it..I want to try it in a different recipe. I should also point out I toasted it as well which may not have done it any favours. It wasn't unedible, was the dryness that really got me. I should have added oil or butter.
I'll try a few other things with it over the next couple of days (why not i have it anyway) maybe try flax instead of wheat bran, add oil etc and let you guys konw how it goes. I'll try it in the regular oven too...or try to tweak one of the online recipes.
Can't say I hated it..can't say i loved it either.
that one site was saying that it was the single most nutritous food on the planet though! Hmm, I looked at the recipes on that site and don't know if you could adapt any of them to low carb or not..some of the recipes aren't even there when I clicked on them.
Keep us up to date if you find a good use for it, even if it is just feeding it to the animals...hope you find the camera, I wanna see this !-

Flax seeds have some pretty unique qualities that set them apart from other seeds in cooking/baking, subbing hemp seeds (or sesame seeds, sunflower seeds, whatever) 1:1 with flax and not changing the recipe in other ways is a setup for failure. Then again, I have never cooked with hemp, so I can't really give you any pointers on what needs to be done to adapt...
