    Chinese food

I guess I'm very fortunate. Our local chinese resturants have a section for "dieters". There are probably 5-6 items that are prepared without sugar and corn starch. Try asking your favorite place if they have any similar options.

Many of the Chinese restaurants here will serve the sauce on the side. I finally went out for Chinese last week (I started on July 2, and went for the simplest thing I could think of -- Moo Goo Gai Pan (chicken with Chinese vegetables). Was great! They steamed the chicken and veggies and served the sauce on the side. I did dip the edges of my meat and veggies into the sauce -- total about a TBS of sauce ended up in my food. Of course I could have not had any, but since this is a WOL, not a diet, I dipped -- of course this is not a sauce that has sugar, either! Just a little oil, green onion, broth and cornstarch. I experienced no adverse side effects ( I didn't eat the carrots or little corn that came with it!)

I think it does help if you read a few Chinese (or whatever type of ethnic food you like) cookbooks, so you have a basic understanding of what typically goes into the dishes you like -- then you can always ask for specific ingredients to be omitted or served on the side.

most chinese sauces have sugar in them, even stuff like broccoli and beef will have some sugar in it.

this is killing me since chinese is my fave food.

Alot of asian restaurants, particularly vietnamese, have a selection of steamed dishes with or without meats. They have no sauce, so I get a steamed dish with chicken, shrimp, or beef, say no to the rice, and use hot mustard, or soy sauce. Then I try not to look at my boyfriend's chicken fried rice and spring rolls
