  • The McDonald's Angus Burger MYTH!

So far, three or four individuals have been kind enough to warn me about the evils of the McDs Angus Burger. Even providing the list of ingredients in the evil seasonings.

When the topic first came up, I walked over to the McDs on the corner by my office and talked to the owner.

    So here is the scoop:

The 100% Beef burger, does in fact come from the Angus breed. It is cooked with salt & pepper (you can have it cooked without it but will have to wait 4 or 5 minutes for it to be cooked fresh.)

The seasoning mix, is stored in a shaker and is APPLIED by shaking the shaker over the fully prepared sandwich, just before the addition of the top bun (or in my case the addition of the salad plate lid.)

If the carbs contained in the Angus Burger are NOT to your liking, simply request no seasoning when you order the sandwich.

For me, 1/3 pound of beef, with swiss cheese and grilled mushrooms provides sufficient flavoring to negate the need for the seasonings.

I want to emphasize that McDonalds DOES NOT mix the seasoning in with the burger before they cook it! They buy their beef in bulk and make there patties in house with only beef as the ingredient before going on the grill.

    Enjoy!

Re: The McDonald's Angus Burger MYTH!

At the beginning of my most recent Atkins journey (beginning in February), I would eat two plus a grilled chicken salad. More recently, I haven't been able to comfortably eat one and a salad. Unfortunately, When I first began eating them, it was with the seasoning. Since my talk with the McDs owner, it is without the seasoning.

I usually get an Angus bacon and cheese plain. I throw the bun away. How many carbs is in the sandwich without the bun?

If you remove the bun, the ketchup and the onions you are left with 7 carbs, 2 of those carbs are listed as part of the burger. Without the seasoning, that would leave 5 total carbs, with no dietary fiber, or 5 carbs. (although, the actual count of the carbs in the chart shows 6, so that would leave 4.) (I got the infor from the link Elizellen posted:

I think the sodium should come down without the extra "shakings" on top.....hope.

                          Sauteed Mushrooms:

Mushrooms. Prepared with Liquid Margarine: Liquid soybean oil, water, partially hydrogenated soybean oil, salt, hydrogenated cottonseed oil, soy lecithin, mono-and diglycerides, sodium benzoate and potassium sorbate (preservatives), artificial flavor, citric acid, vitamin A palmitate, beta carotene (color).

                          CONTAINS: SOY LECITHIN.

Geezaloo...I'm usually very good on soy patrol...never thought to look at the mushrooms. AND...what's up with the hydrogenated oils??? Aren't those trans fats???

canucme I have a soy allergy so I can't eat McDonalds angus beef.

Dr Atkins sasy to avoid hydrogenated fats which are transfats so we shoule be avoiding them which means the mushrooms are out.

that bacon cheese one without the added seasoning Forbey posted about should be legal as should the one with tomoto and lettuce as long as we hold the ketcup and buns and the shaken on seasoning.

                              yep they are transfats

and look at McDonalds cheese on the bacon one it has soy lecithin as the antisticking of slices item.

I can't believe the amount of added carbs in that swiss cheese too but at least it is soy free.
