I'm also a little bit skeptical, because I went to Nutrition Smart this weekend and talked to a very credible nutritionist I know there, and she told me that when you have Candidas and kill it off, you get cramping in the intestines. Missy said that didn't happen to her, yet she did benefit from this cleansing.

I took the spit test and it was positive too. I have no symptoms of Candida other than I have always been a slow loser and some legal foods like cream cause me to gain right away, so I figure I could try a Candida remedy and see if that helps. What have I got to lose, except a few bucks?

The Candida remedies are pretty expensive, but I found one that only takes 2 weeks to do and is not very expensive and has all the ingredients Dr A recommends (Oil of Oregano, digestive enzymes and Probiotics). I'm willing to give this a try, as I don't think it could hurt to try to reset my Ph anyway.

you don't have to buy anything you can use natural Atkins allowable foods to starve the yeast to death. You can use the antifungal foods or herbs to help kill it off and prevent reinfestaion and you can eat or take probiotics to help keep they intestinal flora at a desired level so the yeast don't get a chance to grow again.

Not every person who has a yeast infection has the same symptoms. just think about all the different ways induction flu hits folks because we all have slightly different metabolic make ups. Yes if you have a sever Candida infestation and you switch to the antoi candiad diet and take the meds you may get cramps but remember we are low carbers so we have been starving our yeast for months already. Several folk get sever yeast dieoff during their induction flu days with cramps hives the whole works.

Interesting. I still think I'm going to do the 2 week cleanse though, as I had taken antibiotics twice since starting Atkins over a year ago, and though I know about resetting my flora & fauna afterwards, I didn't , so I think it would be beneficial.

I think this has been a good thread. Thanks 2big!

We have given up so much for this WOL, I want to be sure before I go and give up dairy too!! Sorry, but I am the world's biggest skeptic!
Why be a skeptic here? Dr, Atkins even said that over 80% of people have it and don't know it. The spit test is the test to take, found it on other sites not promoting their product.

well, I am 3 days into my cleanse. I don't have all my supplements yet as I had to order them on line but I do have the garlic and dandelion tea.

I have had alittle bit of cramping and diahrea but nothing I could not live with...and I definately what this yeast under control. I have found it very easy to modify my diet to eat this way. other than having to change my thanksgiving plans slightly, I do not think it will effect me all that much (though I would love some hot sauce!)

I also mentioned this to my Registered Dietician and to my physician and they said there was no validity to candida overgrowth and weight loss. They said it was just another scheme to sell products. They also said the spit test was not a true measurement of candida.

Who do you believe!!! I just don't know!!!

I don't know...all I know is how well I feel, and I don't trust doctors....but that's another thread...... :yes the products sure don't hurt to take and not having dairy in your diet for awhile would be a nice change for your system. I just know the difference it has made for my DH and I. And best of all the candida symptoms i was suffering from are almost gone!!!! :nod It broke a 7 month stall for DH and I've lost a pant size....go figure??? ensive

Hence another reason why I don't trust doctors. This is not a new concept. It's been around for much longer than many of us have been alive. It's just not necessarily "taught" to all western medicine doctors. It's a natural remedy for dozens of symptoms that lots of westernized medicine doctors would prefer to prescribe drugs for.... or diagnose patients with diseases instead.

Personally, I don't think things like IBS and Fibromyalgia even exist. I think they are nothing more then symptoms of severe candida.... but that's only my opinion. (I also think it's possible that diseases like Multiple Sclerosis could be avoided if caught and treated early... with nothing more then a candida cleanse)

Footnote.... I am not saying all western doctors are bad, just a bad glitch in the system that makes things look bad for the "good" doctors.

I do believe that Candida can slow one's metabolism. One of the reasons we lose so effectively on Atkins is that we are correcting our metabolism through the elimination of all processed foods, flours, sugars, etc.

So it stands to reason that if Candida is thriving in our bodies, then our metabolism is not in balance.

Something else that is scary. I work in a hospital and I process paperwork on organ donations. If an organ donor is rejected by the donor bank, the reason why has to be listed. Yesterday, I processed a rejection due to "Candidas".

You give up all forms of sugar & starch (which you should have already), and all fermented/brine/smoked products (alcohol, vinegar, mustard, soy sauce, lunch meats) and any products that could contain mold, like cheese, mushrooms some nuts. Stay away from fruit until your symptoms clear up. Basically it would mean doing induction again and cut out the products above that are legal on induction.

You know what else candidas causes? HAIR LOSS!! You know how you ALWAYS see that post here about people losing a lot of their hair. I wonder if it is due to candidas? Stands to reason to me....

                            Missy

With the spit test...if it is clear and doesn't sink then you DON'T have it.

I feel EXACTLY the same especially after clearing up my husbands gallbladder from being removed with a liver cleanse!!! Heck, tyhe doctors make $10,000 and operation to remove the gallbladder and they are whipping out 4-5 a day.....GEEZ!!! :nono (almost buying a Hummer a day...LOL) Doctor couldn't believe what we accomplished. That gallbladder attack was a blessing in disquise as it got us to be aware of this candida....I don't even miss dairy....both of us feel SO much better!!! it is WAY underdiagnosed....Doctors just keep pumping us with drugs to mask the problem and everyone keeps getting more and more symtoms....it's sad. :sadblinky I'll do natural healing and cleansing anyday to prevent disease.
