  • Butter and mayo?

I recently discovered I have a yeast overgrowth.

I've been looking at various anti-yeast diets (Including KISS, low-carb anti-yeast, and the four Yeast Connection plans) and have found conflicting information. Some say that vinegar is OK, and others say to avoid it. (Vinegar is in mayonnaise.) Some say that butter is OK, and others say to eliminate it.

What are your experiences with this?

I am wondering if this maybe be part of the issue you have with beer? What do you think?

Yep, it DEFINITELY is, Titian! The issue I have with beer, with grains, with all sorts of things. I had read in my research that yeast symptoms can mimic gluten symptoms, but since I hadn't had obvious "yeast" problems (like a yeast infection) I didn't think that yeast was the culprit.

So now I know what I've got to do, I'm just wondering if butter and mayonnaise are OK on a yeast-free diet. Some sources say YES, some say NO, and I wondered what the members of ADBB think...

          Re: Butter and mayo?

Hi Julie, I was looking back at my fitday from when i was feeling a whole lot better and my face cleared and losing weight and it was at the time i cut out a lot of food, and basically was eating the meat, veggies, and eggs and using olive oil as my fat, but i did have butter daily, just usually at bfast for my eggs, i would have used more if i steamed my veggies but since i pretty much roast all veggies now i use olive oil, and i did use mayo just not on a daily basis, i tried to cut back on it, see i use mayo and worshechire which both have vinegar in them as and mix as a dip for steak and i did that back then. Now this time i have had no butter or mayo but seeing i did then i might use some here and there, just not as much. The thing about butter in my eggs it really helps get the fat in there, so here i have been using olive oil spray and it just dont give me the fat i need.

            Lisa, thanks!

I'm concerned about ways to get my fat up too, and I just can't fathom eating ONLY olive oil for that. I don't *think* it'll be a problem, I just want to make sure.

Coconut oil (virgin organic) is a yummy yeast fighting oil. It's nice on skin too.

                    Re: Butter and mayo?

Sherri, thanks, but I am on the KISS plan for candida overgrowth and can't have any nuts/seeds for a while. I used to eat natural peanut butter everyday...I think that's part of what got me in this mess.

Obviously, chocolate is out too, as are olives.

I did, however, have some avocado tonight--my first attempt at making guacamole! It's also the first time I've eaten avocado and liked it.

I posted this question in the Candida forum because I prefer mayo and butter over olive oil, or at least, I use it more often, and would hate to NOT be able to use them! From what I've gathered, they both seem to be OK.

                      Re: Butter and mayo?

I did the really strict version from the Yeast Connection, and it worked better than just getting rid of mushrooms, cheese, nuts and pickled foods. I did eat butter, but did not eat mayo. I cut out all coffee, tea, dried spices, prepared salad dressings, mushrooms, vinegar, pickles, mustard, ketchup and the like. The reason some tell you to not eat butter is because they are still thinking fat is bad for you. I used butter, olive oil and coconut oil to keep my fat up. This really did the job on the yeasties. You also need to take probiotics to get your good bacteria back up.

After 14 days, I started drinking very strong chamomile tea, which kills yeast and fungus. I also started taking Olive Leaf Extract supplements and continue to take coconut oil.

I had surgery again yesterday, so I am doing all I can not to get another yeast overgrowth.

                      Sunny!

                        Re: Butter and mayo?

Sunny, thanks so much for stopping by!

Yep, I've got to give up vinegar. I'm going to try making my own mayo again. I made it this summer, and it was OK, but I've found a recipe that does not use vinegar so I'll give it a whirl. I love butter! YESSSSSS I'm so happy I can eat it! That solves lots of problems right there. I thought they didn't want people to eat butter because it's made with cream. I saw a vast improvement in just 4 days (I took the spit test on Thursday then again on Sunday), I couldn't believe it! I'm going to re-test this Sunday to see my progress again.

How long do you suggest following the plan for before adding foods back in?

I wish I could use coconut oil, but I'm sensitive/allergic to coconut. (It gives me a sore throat when I eat it.)

Chamomile tea, huh? My boyfriend will be happy to hear that, he misses his morning tea!

These are the anti-fungals I'm taking: garlic oil (pill); oil of oregano (liquid drops in water); biotin, vitamin C, cranberry, echinacea/goldenseal, evening primrose oil (normal daily supplement). I've also been making sure to eat lots of garlic and onions.

For probiotics, I'm taking acidophilus pills.

                          Re: Butter and mayo?

I stayed on it for 14 days, very strictly. I then added stuff back in very slowly and very little dairy was added back. I was having problems with my skin that I didn't know was yeast related, but that cleared up and has stayed gone since I did the diet. I had a problem with the skin on each side of my nose cracking and peeling off. I also had very dry skin on my whole face and it peeled on both sides of my mouth as well. That all is gone, so it had to be yeast related! I never tried the spit test, cause just the thought makes me sick on the tummy.

I added coffee and tea back right away, as well as mayo. I had a little sour cream and I started using bottled Caesar dressing again. I've had mushrooms only once since and I have eaten nuts a few times, but just a few at the time--no peanuts or peanut butter. Besides the coffee, tea and mayo & mustard, I've had very little of the other things. I knew I was going to be on broad-spectrum antibiotics again for this surgery, so I wanted to have the yeast under control up front. I even cut out iodized salt because it has dextrose and, of course, I didn't use any artificial sweeteners for the same reason. I don't like sweet, so I didn't use much Splenda to begin with.
