  • Oil of Oregano or Coconut Oil?

    Or both?
I have a positive yeast test, several yeast symptoms, and have only lost 2 pounds over 12 days of Induction, with minimal cheats (I know, that doesn't help at all, but I want to kick the yeast regardless)

I bought Garlic supplements, and Acido/Bifidum probiotics.
I have yet to purchase Oil of Oregano. Is it really the most effective one? I want to get what works.

Whats' the deal with coconut oil? Is it an alternative to OoO or an addition to it?

Thanks!! I will also be following Dr A's regimen for the yeast cleanse from his book, though I do see he doesn't actually ban mayo and cream and decaf, why? they are potentially mouldy no?

Caprylic acid is the anti-fungal component of coconut oil.
If you want to eat coconut oil, I'd buy Virgin Coconut Oil, but I wouldn't bother thinking that it's going to be very anti-fungal -- for that you really need the caprylic acid.

Oil of oregano is supposed to be one of the strongest anti-fungals that exists.

I've used Oil of Oregno in the past for yeast with great results. But if you can, buy the liquid drops rather than the capsules, it seems to work better.

I dont know how well coconut oil works on yeast but i tried it for a week to see if it would help me through a stall (didnt work, gained a lb instead) and i had an unexpected result when it made my wart on my finger go away.

          Hello,

I agree with Misnagid. Caprylic acid is the anti-fungal component of coconut oil and one of the most potent nondrug or natural yeast-fighting substances. Actually, all of coconut oil's medium chain fatty acids (MCFA) - caprylic, capric and lauric acids have antifungal properties.

          Cheers,

Is there a better way to take Oil of Oregano besides subjecting the tender undersides of your tongue to molten lava that tastes like Listerine x 1000000??

Wow! I never knew Oil of Oregano tasted so horrid... I was thinking of getting some for my son...
Did you find a way to make it palatable, hullabaloo?

Re: Oil of Oregano or Coconut Oil?

Yes, I have found the solution for my poor tongue, lol. I drop the drops in under my tongue as written on the bottle. Then I immediately take a gulp of water and swish it quick and swallow fast. Then I do it again and swallow fast. Then I just finish the water normally and no taste. Just don't put it under the tongue and hope for the best, it's nasty!! Have water on standby!

Re: Oil of Oregano or Coconut Oil?

I've done a full blown Atkins/Candida cleanse diet before - back in 2003 - over the course of 10 months. The one thing I will say is what my doctor told me and what Atkins said as well - it is never over. You can't ever really go back to eating completely normal food. I did, and it has been a disaster. I gained back the 100 pounds I lost (a loss I had sustained for 3 years) in just 2 years. I severely sprained my ankle 2 years ago, couldn't exercise, got depressed, ate, took chances on things I wasn't supposed to eat, stopped my supplements, and the yeast came back full force. Now, I am in the midst of beginning all over again.

Here is the thing. You do need a number of things to attack the candida since the same things don't work equally well for everybody. Why? Because there are I believe 17 other types of yeast in your intestine that haven't been researched and so, the yeast over-growth may not necessarily be albicans. My doctor suggested several different herbal remedies in additon to a 3-month perscription for diflucan. I also looked at Atkins book Vitanutrient Solution. After doing a ton of investigating, knowing what was effective last time and what wasn't, I have put together an ansenal I am going to rotate every so many weeks in order to deem what is most effective and to rid myself of the candida again.

For me the things that worked last time were garlic, grapefruit seed extract (pill form), oil of oregano, and Candidcid Forte (a mixture of herbs). The coconut oil did nothing for me. This time however, I am starting out also with olive leaf extract, propolis, and caprylic acid. Now, this is not to say that coconut oil doesn't work, but it didn't for me. My point is you need to experiement a little and find out what is effective for you. This is still a virtually unstudied area. Luckily my mom is a nurse and has worked as a medical researcher, my cousin in a surgeon, my aunt was chief of surgery, another was a nurse, and I have a few others in the field. Thus, I can bounce things off of them, go through their journals, and find much of the information I need easily. But at the end of the day it is a lot of research, trial and error, and hard work just to get yourself on track.

If you want a copy of what I am doing I am happy to email it to you. But, as I said, you need to figure out what addresses your specific case. Try both, and perhaps try a few other things as well.

                      Good luck,
                      Jeanne

wouldn't washing it away with water defeat the purpose?
i think you're suppose to take things under your tongue so they get absorbed into the veins under there....

I have to admit I do the swish with water thing after a few minutes. I've been dotting three drops - three times a day for a while now... it gets better but still burns. You/we must try to keep it under the tongue as long as possible. The reason for putting it there in the first place is because it can absorb into our system without going through the stomach. Going through the stomach lowers it's potency and efficacy.

You can dilute it but the longer it stays under the tongue the better
