Have anyone heard of this diabetic condition?
Yesterday I went to a new eye Dr. optometrist not a specialist, to have my eyes exam to get new glasses. I hadn't had my eyes checked in 3 years. But every since I fell back in March and hurt my left eye I have noticed my vision getting worse.
I realize at 55 years of age my vision will get worse and most of the changes are because of me getting older. But the Dr. dialated my eyes and then he told me I have snowflake cataracts in both eyes. He asked if I keep close watch on my blood sugar. I told him I have never had a blood test that showed my blood glucose being abnormal. But my dad and on his side of the family have diabetes. My dad died at 65 yrs, due to diabetes. He had Adult onset diabetes, type 2.
I have been eating atkins way for the past 2 years and have lost 94 pounds, so I was shocked to hear that I have a condition that usually goes along with diabetes. He told me to just continue eating Low Carb, of which I will. And the check my blood sugar at times.
I am thinking that I was so close to having diabetes, 2 years ago , and so lucky to have started eating the Atkins way. But I am concerned about these cataracts. I will ask this Dr. more questions when I go back to get my new glasses.
Any thoughts about this would be appreciated.
Thanks
Becky Sue
