For those that don't remember me. I began the Atkins way of eating in September of 2004. I lost over the course of a year over 70 pounds. Then in August of 2005 I had to have a complete hysterectomy. Since having the hysterectomy, this WOE has not had the effect on me that it did in the beginning. I began to gain back weight and became frustrated. Today I went for my annual check up with my gyn and he asked me if diabetes ran in my family. I told him yes, that my father had it. He checked my blood sugar and it was 79. He told me he felt that I was pre-diabetic and would likely develope it. He advised me to go back on Atkins. He said he is doing it right now himself because he too is a diabetic. I know that Atkins is good for people with high blood sugar, but mine is on the low side right now. What kind of effect will it have on mine. He told me he felt as if my body was working overboard to produce enough insulin to keep my sugar low and that it would eventually not be able to produce any. This has hit me pretty hard because I had no idea this was going on. He noticed the symptoms and started asking questions and found out that I have numerous symptoms of it.
I am sorry this is so long, but it's very upsetting to me. I am only 32 years old and have 3 small children. Any input as far as diet and exercise will greatly be appreicated.
TIA
Ashlie
